I also bet Dubas is doing everything he can right now. Problem with dealing with the Leafs is they’re likely picking in the 25-32 range. But I imagine a Leafs package would include throwing picks like crazy as the window is now. Could see the Flames eating salary and taking on a contract to get a load of assets. Wouldn’t be the ideal partner but I’m sure every team is calling.

You’re probably not wrong, but jeez would that ever be disappointing. Just delaying the inevitable and skipping over one of the deepest drafts in years

That is much more appealing to me than a 24 year old Jordan Kyrou. Flames need to think rebuild and not retool.
If they play this right and show a bit of patience they could draft 6-7 times in the first round over the next two drafts. Would be insanely helpful

I mean, dream package. If that’s on the table there’s no package that tops it.

I’d be very surprised to see Holtz, Mercer and a 1st on the table. I don’t think we’ll see Mercer on the table. He’s already there and part of their core. Holtz + 1st + other prospects could be possible.

Nylander would be the obvious piece, but they'd probably need to include another contract to make the cap work. Thing is, both Kerfoot and Holl have a 10 team NTC, so who knows if Calgary is on there. Add that they have a pretty weak prospect pool and it's far from ideal.

This isn’t even close….. it better be Nylander + Amirov/Sandin + 2023 1st
Absolute minimum. Throw in salary as required but Kerfoot or Holl don’t move the needle on their own.

I didn't say it was. I just meant it's difficult to trade with them because of their cap situation and their weak prospect pool. I doubt they can beat what other teams could potentially put on the table.

Frank Seravalli said on SN (TV) this morning that the two destinations he’d circle for Tkachuk would be St. Louis and New Jersey.

I'm not getting fleeced by Toronto again. The Leeman trade still is a trigger for me.

The ongoing fascination with Nylander just boggles my mind. Soft, inconsistent... fans think building around Gaudreau (especially) and Tkachuk was never going to work, but then want to trade for Nylander, and make the same mistake all over again.

NJD? Had they only drafted Wright, maybe he'd be coming back in the deal.
They don't need to shed cap space, I don't think. So the Flamed would probably be after Nemec and a 2023 1st (at least). Mercer maybe?

Makes sense. Jersey's got Hughes and were supposed to be hard after him at the draft. I'd take the rumoured offer of 2OA (now Nemec) and Holtz at this point. Though of course Mercer would be incredible - imagine the Flames building around centres for once.

I don't even want Nylander lol. Just saying, IF they trade with the Leafs, he'd be the obvious piece plus picks/prospects. Who else would they move?
But there's far better options out there. Seravalli mentioning St Louis and New Jersey again is good news.

Well that is pretty high - but top players do land a bunch of assets:
Eichel for Tuch, Krebs, 1st and 2nd round pick
Seth Jones for Boqvist, 1st round pick swap, 2nd round, 1st round
Mantha for Vrana, 1st and 2nd
Stone for Brannstrom, Lindberg, 2nd rd pick
Karlsson for Norris, Tierney, Balcers, DeMelo, bunch of 2nd round picks
O'Reilly for Sobotka, Berglund, Thompson, 1st and 2nd

Yesterday on Tim and Friends Seravelli said MT wanted to go play in the States so Toronto won't be in the mix.

Have to separate from NHL GM expectations (say getting a former 8th overall pick, a 6th overall pick, a 12th overall pick, a 44th overall pick for one year of Seth Jones, a 32nd overall pick and a 173rd overall pick) with what the Flames will get.
I doubt the Flames are getting two players picked in the top 10, a 12th overall pick and a 2nd rounder for Tkachuk a 6th rounder and a late first/early second. That will not be the value, despite the fact that Seth Jones was in the exact same situation and at best Jones should have the same value, if not slightly worse, than Tkachuk.
Different GM’s will extract different value.

Dom Luszczyszyn over at the Athletic calls Tkachuk a "Unicorn" and says that "every team in the league should be in on him." A player like Tkachuk does not become available very often. I expect a return similar to the Eichel return.
Otherwise hang onto him for a little while.

I just hope for one piece like Bratt or Kyrou. If they aren't on the table then I think the Flames hold for the deadline.

Yep, the Eichel trade is the blueprint for this deal. It's nice that trade happened in such recent years, as otherwise a player in that tier really hadn't been dealt in recent history.
Good, mid-20s player.
Top tier prospect.
1st round pick.
2nd round pick.
That's the criteria.

Why? It's not more likely that the package gets better closer to the deadline. If anything, it limits the options. Focusing in on the "now" of this trade is the least important part. They need to NAIL the prospect acquired. The player we get today isn't going to be better than Tkachuk, or anywhere near as good. The prospect has to be top tier, that's the most important piece in my eyes.
