Stutzle is the only option when the Flames trade their 40+goal 100+pt 24 year old forward for Josh Anderson

Still wouldn't touch that with a 50 foot pole

If we're trading Tkachuk to Ottawa, one of the main benefits we should get is a huge glut of cap space. Batherson + Stutzle or F off Dorion! They can keep anderson to fill the batherson hole.

This might be the only real window to get stutzle. He was in a secondary role last year, and Ottawa has not really seen what he is capable of. I think that the best you can hope for is stutzle, Greig and 7, but that is a great return. You're not getting two roster players.
Turn around and trade mangiapane and 7 for tanasenko retained and the blues pick.
Sign johnny. Rebuilt robot legs Monahan.
I'd be more stoked about this year than I was about last year.

Yes, people expect a little too much for essentially negotiation rights for Tkachuk.
I like Stutzle and he's a fit here. His play jumped after moving to C and we could use one. He's got decent speed, he's not small, and he fought an Oiler. Also as a German, he's less likely to look to the states as a destination IMO.

I still can't believe Seattle didn't take Tarasenko in the expansion draft. Seattle made some really dumb decisions.

Tarasenko looked as much like Monny as anyone at the time.
He obviously came back healthy.

But considering now Seattle is claiming (or insiders are I guess) that they want to dive into the FA pool, it makes their decisions last year and even this deadline even more odd IMO

I can't image that Ottawa would trade Stulze. He really came on in the 2nd half last year. If there is any way for the Flames to get him, they need to jump on it. He's 20 years old with years of control left, still on his ELC.

I have a feeling Peletier is going to be on the 3rd line at least this year.

Surprised he's still only 29. Swedish, which is always good here. Not sure if DS will like how he plays defence. +/- is a terrible stat but He's miles worse than any other defenceman on the Stars. The same in previous years when Dallas was a net positive goals for/against team.

OK on the PP (which the Flames need), but not a good dman in his zone. There is a reason Dallas is not interested in bring him back.
if we had the cap space, he might be interesting, as I expect Sutter could make something of him.

Well, the Flames will need one and maybe two Dmen with GudB and Zad being UFAs. Klingberg got 7x$4.25 last time out. And he is a one dimensioanl guy who's game is declining gradually. Maybe he can be gottne cheap. I'd let him linger in UFA and then see if you can get him after a few days when he's more desperate.

Outside of the top 2 picks I'm not sure how much high end talent there is.
It's tough. Because really I'm not sure they are bad enough to keep drafting top 5, and probably not good enough to make the playoffs. So do you try to move out pieces to suck again, or try to bring pieces in to get better at this point?
Chabot, Tkachuk, Batherson, Stutzle, Formenton are nice young pieces already making an impact for the team. Sanderson, Pinto, Greig, Sokolov, Thomson look to be pieces that will come up and supplement the young core.
I think it actually makes sense for the Senators to start adding. Now I think it's fair to question if you think Anderson and Dvorak are the right pieces, especially at the cost of 7th overall.
|
All nice young pieces but they lack high end talent. I think Sanderson might be the exception of he can grow into a strong #1.
They really f'd up last year by drafting for need, trying to get their "Tom Wilson" with Boucher instead of drafting BPA with a high pick.
And they are now possibly going to compound their bad decision making.
