Maybe it’s because I only “half” listen (usually driving, working in the garage, etc) I don’t visualize what I hear, so direction is irrelevant. He could say “Flames playing from front to back” and it wouldn’t matter. Curious how others process play by play.

I first heard it from Peter Maher on QR77 or 66 CFR, can't remember which station games were on first...

QR77 from 1980 to 1990, 66CFR thereafter.

Do people visualize in that detail? Are you lost if you join mid period? Would you know if he lied and they were actually playing right to left?

I hear it a lot listening to college football games, I just assumed it was a common thing.

I find when I'm gaslighting somebody the best strategy is to make sure you accuse them of gaslighting you before they accuse you of gaslighting them. That way, it puts them on the defensive of trying to convince you that they're not gaslighting. I call it the double-tap and it is successful 100% of the time.

That actually never works, it's all in your head.

Any Calgary history buffs here? Why are there two different spellings for Symons/Simons Valley? Were there two different families in the NW with incredibly similar names or people just inconsistent spellers?

All I could find on it:

Please Note- Alt Spelling- “Symons” Valley, which is WRONG!
I still see “Symons” name used online for this area, which is disrepectful to the Pioneer it is named after
In 2001 this area became a new development area for the City of Calgary

Named after Walter Edward (alt-Edwin) Simons, Postmaster in 1911 (see bio below)

I was struck by seeing 2 super old school car window stickers that were in amazing condition yet on newer vehicles (2017-2020?). Like are these still available to purchase and what sense of nostalgia would possess you to put them on your car?

The two stickers were the "Bad Boy" sticker with the 2 menacing eyes and a Keep Calm and Chive On sticker. I mean Huwhut? Made me a distracted driver trying to think of what precipitated these stickers being sourced and placarded. The other weird thing was it wasn't like there were a bunch of stickers on these back windows, they took the time to place one singular message to the world, perfectly centered and clearly the focal point they were looking for. So weird.

Elk backstrap sounds like something Thor would try.

There has been situations where someone has lost one lobe of their brain, and survived. However, what if you could separate a brain into 2 distinctive halves, and install one of them in another body. Who retains the identification of the original? What happens to the memories? Who is who? Do you have two unique individuals?

Also, if you pull one eyeball out of the socket and leave it connected to the optic nerve then point it directly at the other eye, what do you see?

I think only live experiments could tell you the answer. If you need some test subjects...I have a few suggestions.

https://www.gent.name/ab:simonsvalley
From the Symons Valley Community Plan (PDF download from the City of Calgary: https://publicaccess.calgary.ca/lldm...ction=Download):
Symons Valley was named after W. E. Simons, the first post-master appointed to the area. Established in 1907, the Simons’ home was the site of the local post office. Between 1911 and 1926 the post office moved among neighbouring farms until rural mail delivery commenced. Inconsistencies in the spelling of Symons Valley probably started through an initial error in the post office signage that was then repeated at subsequent Symons Valley post-offices. Thus, while "Simons" is the historically accurate spelling of the postmaster’s name, the revision of the spelling to "Symons" has been the one that has been traditionally used by the residents in the area, and it remains the predominant spelling today.

I was on a site and posted the comment "Who #### in your cornflakes?"

It was such a common saying growing up, I just assumed it was common everywhere.
I was surprised on how many people had never heard of it. They thought it was hilarious, but had never heard the saying before.

Most of you heard it growing up, right? Is it Canadian, just Albertan?

I was talking to a friend who grew up in NW Calgary, and lived in Sherwood one time that called is Sim-ens valley (like the mattresses). And it blew my mind, how have you lived within 10km of there your entire life and not know how to pronounce it.

I don't really know how to do phonetic writing but it should be something like.
