They didn't leave alone, there was at least two trucks. One of the Saviors was manning the gate at Alexandria when Rosita et al came back.

Oh, I thought they just saw the truck that Negan and Carl had taken and knew they were there. I don't think I would be able to tell the difference between an Alexandrian or a Saviour manning the gate.

I'm pretty sure the guy at the gate had a gun, that would be a give away it wasn't an Alexandrian.

Isn't the obvious answer that Dwight slipped Darryl the note?

Yip he did.
It was in interesting episode.
I think next episode we see the start of the alliance between Alexandria, Hill Top, The Kingdom start to come together.

It seems like Negan is a jerk to everyone so I'm not sure why anyone would fear repercussions from taking him out as outside of Trevor maybe I don't see anyone that would take vengeance out on his killers.

Yeah i agree.

Out walks Negan.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan but I see everyone's point on this one, I was the same way.
I wonder if this is one of the 'cheesy comic moments' that I dont get because I dont know anything about the comics, but Carl's plan wasnt exactly complicated.
Stow away in a truck that takes you to Negan. Acquire weapon. Kill Negan.
Not all that intricate.
Then, miraculously, everything goes according to that half-assed plan and he chickens out at the last second? Weak.

The thing is that he kills two of his men so logic dictates it would be easy to pull the trigger on Negan. Not to mention that Negan in real life would have run for cover the moment he heard gun fire rather than walk up and hand himself to the shooter.

They definitely dropped the ball. Why not just make Carl run out of bullets after taking a few Saviours out.

At this point I would expect the writers to lend to the idea that Carl can be flipped to the Saviors. His inability to finish the job on Negan, and his awe after Negan addressed his followers, gives them an opportunity to make this oversight pay off.
Unless you want to completely undermine what you've built Carl into. Like Negan was saying, don't shatter my image of you as a supposed badass.

I am sure there are assumptions of what is happening when we are not watching, but is Negan's few interactions with Carl enough to make him want him as his heir apparent?

I believe Karl will suffer an ugly fate this comING mid season finale. Either losing a limb, some skin by the iron, or death.
It is the final straw that triggers rick to go back into fight mode against the saviours.

I believe this is the most likely scenario or I was actually hoping that CORAL will actually fall for Negans antics and actually turn against his own father in the eventual war of the Saviors vs Everyone.

I doubt anyone important dies in the next episode. If we have learned anything from this show it's that they like to leave a cliffhanger at the mid-season and season conclusion. I expect that the episode will conclude with Carl or one of the members of the group in an extremely precarious position.

walking dead ratings down
Article suggests it's because of too many dystopian dramas on tv.
let's hope this gives them a kick in the arse to actually bring this to resolution or have them move to a different part of the globe.
