Uh okay, but that seems distinctly like their problem.

I don't get why you tell the cabbie where you are going before you get in the cab? Isn't the procedure, you get in, you give your address, the cabbie puts the car in gear and turns on the meter?

They either roll down the window and ask or ask before they put it in drive and then kick you out.

Yeah most of the time if it's a high-demand time (say, 2 AM on a Saturday), they just roll down the window and ask, and wave you off if it's any suburb not near the airport.

Generally speaking I'd tell them "I'm going home" and why would you allow them to kick you out unless you've been acting like a jerk?

Because the minute you refuse to exit their private property (even if their reasons are assholish), you are a belligerent jerk?

No. They don't go for that. The only way you can trick them (trust me, I honed this skill after years of getting denied) is to pretend you're going to "a party", and you don't know where it is, but it's definitely SOUTH!! Go SOUTH!! And once there's a few bucks on the meter, your friend "texts" you, and now you have the address that is something they don't want to hear like 33rd ave, or 162 ave. But now they're invested for just a bit more than they're willing to kick you out over, so they drive you.
Here's a thing I started to do after I got so sick and tired of getting denied of a ride to 25th & 16th after drinking at 1410 or Morgans, I'd get in and pretend I was waiting for directions, get him to start driving up the hill, and then "get a text", and give my buddy's address in Altadore (which is only a few more blocks, for those of you that don't know DT Calgary), at which point I'd get kicked out of the cab, right at the top of the hill at 26&14th Esso, two blocks from my apartment.
Two can play at that game, you a-holes. Thanks for the free ride. I would have happily paid, and you would have been back out front of the pub making $10 in 10 minutes. Actually, I routinely dropped a $20 on cabbies that said "no problem!" before I "changed my mind" and made them drive me home just around the corner.
Just the fact that I had to play a cabbie like I was trying to get laid was so frustrating. Especially when I was trying to take a girl home to get laid.

Here's the thing, the relationship between cabbies and the public has broken down and doing crap like this just makes the matter worse.

On the new "Taxi Rules & Rights" board they've hung in all cabs, one of the rights as a passenger is to pay with any form of payment listed on the outside of the cab. So tough #### to him. If he says VISA, gotta take visa. They can manually punch in numbers or call them in.

I remember one or more cab companies would charge the driver 7% on all charges. Not a lot on one trip but it could add up at the end of the week and make drivers not so happy to take a card.

The cabbie kicked him out!
I'll start repairing the relationship bringing a guitar for a kumbaya sing along as I ask him to kindly do his job by driving me home (a request that, currently, is difficult to get granted and a reality that escapes you, apparently).

How is getting kicked out of a cab ripping him off? I have to bluff my way into the cab to begin with.

Okay I misread that. I thought you maybe jumped out at the light. Something that happens. Dumb move by the cabbie at that point.

Repeatedly. Not just once, more like every Saturday. Like I said wayyy back when this thread started, there's a goldilocks zone that cabbies are looking for. If you're on 17th, they want nothing to do with you if you're going to Altadore or Evergreen. They want Acadia or Haysboro (spoken like a Southie). Anything more or less than that, and you can kick rocks.
