To no ones surprise:

Prices significantly higher than promised.

Range, towing, etc specs all significantly lower than promised.

the base model, at $60k USD, not available until 2025 (with tesla timeframes, this could mean never). A Base model Lightning is available now, starting at $50k USD.

Exactly! You should have seen the look on my in-laws' faces when I pointed out I had significantly more cargo capacity in my Grand Caravan versus their F-150. We were at Costco and they asked if I needed to put my purchases in their truck and I just laughed.

LOL. What a truck.

Spoiler!

And the range extender, for $16k US. Gets you almost to the 500mi range they promised 4 years ago.

The general feeling on the fanboy sites is this is a disappointing $30k more than they expected with worse range.

Yeah, this should be a huge boost for Rivian and Ford.

So with a spare tire in the back this has less utility than a compact hatchback? Totally worth the wait! That said the reality is that 90% of pickup truck drivers are driving around with empty beds anyway. North Americans want trucks more than they really need them.

The rear view mirror isn't a screen, so with the tonneau cover closed (which will be like 95% of the time) you can't see out the back with the mirror, you have to use the camera.

Jason Cammisa drives the Cybertruck. He’s surprisingly positive although he doesn’t really review its truckiness.

I like how the mirrors get smaller towards the area you actually need them. Great for towing.

When you drive a Tesla you don't tow, you get towed.

On one hand, I totally agree with you that the majority of pickup drivers don't actually use or need them.

On the other, at least pickups have their spare tire mounted underneath the truck bed so you can still use your spare in case you get a flat while hauling something. This is "you can have a spare, or you can haul; pick one".

It's weird because there is a large in bed storage area, but as designed you couldn't get a spare in there. Given it has a frunk and integrated lockable tonneau cover, how much more storage do you need? Seems a weird tradeoff.

The mirrors are actually designed to be completely removable by the end user and are only retained for legal purposes for states which require them at delivery. There are cameras that cover their function.

Well that sounds safe, given how much winter crud typically covers cameras.

Tesla remains a car designed for California/Texas and winter is always a second thought with them it seems.

That said, my side view cameras have never been obstructed in winter, only the reverse/backup camera which gets covered in crud.

That's also a critical point though since there is no rear-view mirror in the cabin. Its also camera dependant.

I googled for some fun "do you want to cyber" memes, and I'm super disappointed that it has gone to meaning cyber security. The internet has lost everything that made it cool. Now it's just Elon Musk.

I'm kind of alarmed by how much the masses actually think this vehicle is cool. It kind of highlights the problem with current North American culture of excess in that this truck has very little utility as it's big and high riding for the sake of being big and high riding. I don't understand the whole love affair with pickup trucks but at the very least traditional pickup trucks have utility and can fulfill their purpose of hauling stuff around. This is a vanity vehicle like a Jeep and doesn't do much to progress electric vehicles.
