1) don't give up the best player in the trade. Bennett isn't yet, but he will be
2) Flames are a rebuilding team just like the Leafs. Why give up one of the best 18 year olds on the planet?
If the Leafs really want Bennett, give us this year's 1st and 2nd and Reilly.
Or **** off

Wow, that's 13 replies to some just random silly proposal. It seems to be exciting to talk about anything at all, as long, as it is about Bennett.

Just to be clear I do not think the Flames trade Bennett under any circumstances. That being said a Kessel at 4 million a year for the next 7 years riding shotgun to Gaudreau's passing, a potentially top 2 dman in Rielly and a NHL dman in Gardner for Bennett would be an enticing offer for the Flames to consider.
As for one of the best 96's on the planet (which he is) the Flames would be getting back a pretty good 94 dman, an eccentric 90 dman and an elite 87 goalscorer. It is not like it would be a throwing the rebuild trade in the dumpster trade when you are getting a 21 year old dman, a 25 year old dman and a 28 year old forward back for a 19 year old forward.

I'm just not sold on Phil Kessel.
Sorry, but he sounds like he just isnt a team player and knowing how much emphasis the management puts on character I think Kessel fails the character test.
Whereas Bennet seems to pass the character test with flying colours.
It doesnt matter how good they are they have to fit in the team.

Can the Flames call up Bennett now?
Call him up for the remainder of the season. He might be the spark we need to close out strong. If we make the playoffs, awesome. If we dont we dont even burn all of his 9 games. Win Win.
Well except his junior team but its juniors.

He's not going to ditch his junior team in the middle of the playoffs, that's not Bennett.

I don't think you guys should dismiss trading Bennett so soon...
You should dismiss it immediately.

Yes, this is a good idea, I think the Flames should explore this.

No, it's not but that reply does suit your shtick.
Here's the thing...
When two teams have needs and want to make a trade, you look for balanced value in a way that addresses each team's needs. That's the basis for a good trade.
But this is a case where one team wants/needs to make a trade and the other team doesn't. The second team has an extremely valuable asset and no need to trade. So the only way they would is with a huge overpayment in order to entice them.
Flames are a rebuilding team. Bennett is one of the top 18 year olds on the planet. You could argue #1.
NO reason whatsoever that the Flames would trade him.
So what assets do the Leafs have that would make sense for the Flames to give up Bennett?
There are only 2:
1) this year's first - which on it's own isn't enough because Bennett is a known commodity.
2) to entice Calgary with an overpayment, the only other enticing asset - Reilly.
Not saying it's fair. Just saying it is the only thing that would get the Flames to trade Bennett.

Trading Bennett would be Oiler-level stupidity. Or a Milbury-era Islanders move where everybody thinks you're an idiot. The trade proposals to the Leafs are as bad as any previous trades we've ever made with them, and that includes the Gilmour and Phaneuf catastrophes.
You don't trade Sam Bennett.

It drives me nuts that this thread on Bennett's progress has turned into a stupid trade proposal thread of him to the Leafs of all teams. Thanks for trainwrecking a good thing!

No it really isn't worse. The flames would give up the 4th pick last year for the 4th and 34th pick this year. Strome, Hanifin, Marner would be the options (2 of the 3).
It would be a dumb trade because there is absolutely no reason for the Flames to trade Bennett as the organization and fanbase has fallen in love with the kid's character.
I don't want to trade Bennett but if we had to trade him to the Leafs I would rsther get their top 5 pick in this draft over Kessel, Gardiner etc

I also am hoping the Fronts get swept in the first round and Bemnett joins the flames for the last few games (as long as we still are in the mix). Inthink he can provide some secondary scoring and breath some new life into the team and could maybe put them over the top and in the playoffs

It's currently the beginning of the second period in the second game of the series.
North Bay is up 2-1. Bennett has an assist on Kingston's lone goal.
