More of a generational leap. Its more of an iterative step I would say, not drastically different like we saw from the generational change in PS1-PS2-PS3 era hockey games.

Like I said, it'll be a fine game of hockey, its just still very much in line with what we're used to from the series.

I think it's less of a NHL problem, and more of a technology problem.

I do believe we're getting to the point where any improvements will always be incremental. I would assume the different between NHL 14 on the PS3 and NHL 20 on the PS4 might be fairly intense. It's much the same as most games that have come out this year. They've all been incredibly comparable to late stage games in the last generation.

last gen we had the leap to HD which was huge, was about the same time everyone was getting new tv's too

looking at other games though the new systems can pull off some amazing visuals...problem with sports games is the action has to be zoomed out to play properly

I've spent some time with the demo and can echo that it won't blow anyone's socks off in terms of making a massive jump from the previous games, but it plays well and the additions/tweaks that were made enhance the experience. A refreshed menu system is welcome (which in the demo at least features some more epic "Madden/NBC-esque" music playing in the background, as opposed to Nickelback or something), and the presentation overhaul seems fairly well done.

The whole "live jersey" thing was probably a bit overemphasized in the trailers, as it doesn't seem nearly as clownish in the actual game, particularly during gameplay, where I find the flowing jersey effects as you skate at speed to actually be a big step up visually over the more static uniforms of yesteryear. I like the commentary, and although I've never really watched any games with Doc presiding, it does seem as though he may be a bit "toned down" in contrast to his TV personality.

One drawback that I noticed while fooling around in practice mode is that it's far too easy to score on the breakaway. There was a gimme goal or two on the breakaway last year that would always be go-to's as well, but I was able to basically score 10 out of 10 times on Lundqvist by either going to the backhand, or faking a shot and going forehand. I know that a breakaway is statistically supposed to produce a higher chance of a goal, but this seemed far too video game-ish, in particular.

Are you guys able to adjust the sliders in the demo, or are they locked? I am curious to see what the difficulty level and goalie attributes are set at.

I downloaded the demo on PS4 via my UK account, and I must say I am really happy with the demo!

First of all, the demo looks really good! I find myself catching a glimpse of stuff going on the stands during gameplay, and that all really adds to the realism.

In terms of gameplay, it strikes me as being less "arcadey" than NHL 14, which I really appreciate.

I tried playing a couple games as a goalie- one timers seem to release more quickly this year. They are hard to stop.

So, it looks like the PS store got updated (you can pre-order NHL 15 now, you couldn't this morning) and there's still no demo.

i'm curious as to why we've heard absolutely nothing about be a gm mode this year.

With no eashl, no season, no playoff, no gmc modes, be a gm is likely going to be the go to playing mode. not hearing or reading any enhancements to the mode, i suppose we should assume basically be a gm from nhl 14 ported?

iirc they actually said it was going to be fairly basic and will be patched as the year progresses to add more depth
