The pens still have so many desirable assets and we can make a deal. Bennett, 1st, one of Despres, Maata, Harrington, Pouliot, Drumilon would get it done. Flames can add depth forwards or D with Comeau/Jackman or Butler/Smith and we can move our 3rd. The key is getting those 3 pieces that are most desirable.

With Letang, Sutter, Malkin all needing new deals after next season there is a chance the pens have to move at least one moving forward. This could be the year to go for it

It's a fine line with holding out for the best deal as it's going to be tough to get a great return when there's only one or two suitors left at the table.
It's definitley a fine line that Feaster has to walk. I get that posters think the longer Feaster holds out the better chance the price goes up. Problem is the list is small. I could see one of those managers waiting for the other teams to go in a different route and be the only one left on the list. Like you said, if it gets down to one suitor the flames are screwed. Would have been nice if the list was 10-12 teams, but i don't blame Iggy for wanting to go to a Cup favourite.

Also a little concerned that Elliot Freedman said that he does not want to be a rental and is looking to sign with the team he is going to. It could work out better, but it also work out worse. What happens if Calgary and a team get close on a deal, then the other team listens to what Iggy wants as an extenssion and says no way. Have no idea what Iggy is looking for, but not hard to think he wants the same deal Doan got or more. Could be a problem depending what the cap is for some of these teams going forward.

Yeah we may as well trade Iginla and Babchuck and a second for a Butler and Byron combo.

We don't trade Iginla for less than a top prospect.

And they should get an excellent prospect or two in any package they receive for Iginla.

They won't be getting someone like Dougie Hamilton.

I don't want to feel sorry for Feaster, because he has not done anything to help avoid this situation. However, he must be under an enormous amount of pressure. No one wants to be forever remembered as the GM who traded Iginla for a bag of pucks. He needs a guaranteed return that will satisfy the fans now and 5 years from now. That means the players/prospects coming this way have to be fully vetted - do they want to play in Calgary long term? What kind of people are they? Do they fit with some of our other up and coming players?

Pressure packed situation!

Iggy with the Sedins would be fantastic

Flames can have all the Canucks non-NHL prospects they want and a 1st

Of note... Toffoli is back in the lineup tonight for the Kings. Was a healthy scratch the last few games.

also if they buyout Booth and Ballard, no reason Iginla can't re-sign for Sedin level money

or we maybe just sign him as a UFA, that works too

Vancouver will have to move a defender and a goalie to field a competitive roster of forwards next year with a raise to burrows and Higgins/Raymond to re-sign.

It is doable, but they need to commit to doing it first.

If they want to, they could afford iginla.

What a waste that would be, Vancouver isn't cup material.

I'd be okay with it, as long as it's Iggy for all of the Canucks 2013 and 2014 draft picks.

I reeeally want to see the Flames get their hands on him.

Him and Bernier even, tossing the pick aside would be fairly solid return.

Stop that. Don't even imagine Jarome wearing that awful uniform. That should be a automatic ban just imaging that.

ya it would mean that they need a few ELCs next year, but the year after would be fine with the cap going back up most likely

would likely mean Raymond is involved in any deal as there's little room to give him a raise, and would need to avoid salary back in a Luongo deal

but

Sedin/Sedin/Kesler/Burrows/Iggy (at 6m for arguments sake)/Hansen/Kassian

Bieksa/Garrison/Hamhuis/Edler

Schnieder

that's 53.4

assuming Ballard/Booth buyouts, Luongo traded for cap would need to be added

still 11m to sign 6 forwards, 3 d, and a backup

very doable considering Schnieder/Tanev are RFAs and probably cheap

so around 8m to sign 5 forwards, 2d, and a backup

Yeah, I could see that. Schroeder probably replace Raymond, I think he's made the team for next year.

Have to move bieksa or garrison though, and it will be tough to find a home for garrison without taking back almost equal salary. They committed to elder and I think need to get him back onto his right side for him to be at his most effective.

I am surprised he would consider it through, and who knows if he even is, just a few people Friedman talked too, it would be like Linden going to Calgary, just a weird feeling

I always thought he would end up going out a Flames with Sedin making everyone shake his hand in his last game like Iginla did for the Flames during Lindens

will definitely be weird in another uniform, let alone the craziness (of what is less than 1 %) if it's the Canucks

I highly doubt they're going to go from we're not moving him to trading him to the Canucks.

There are other values too look at besides what comes back, however intangible they are.
