Any real cyclists up here in the chuck?
I bought a $350 hybrid from Costco this weekend, and after about 80km I'm going to have to return it. I guess I have to spend around $1000, unfortunately. Just wondering if there's a good place to check out up here.

Find a bike shop that sells this one - Giant Sedona DX: This model came recommended from a few friends of mine who bought the same. I've had it for a few weeks and put alot of kms on it and no problems.

I paid $436 for mine

Any recommended bike shops for tune ups in the SW (preferred: Aspen, West Hills or even Glamorgan general area; i.e. not deep SW).
Bowcycle was the most convenient place for me for quite a while; still not so out of the way, but looking for options. Thanks

I took a Specialized Crosstrail Sport out for a test ride yesterday. Anyone own one of these? Opinions? I liked the frame. Way lighter than my old mountain bike.

I have the wahoo fitness mount for my bike - they have an app for it but I prefer to use Strava simply because of the "segments" which compile leader boards for user defined sections. Lots of fun to create a mini race and compete with others for the KOM

So on my way back from the west, I saw this guy with what looked like a suction cup roof rack for his road bike. Does anybody have experience with these? The guy was driving pretty gingerly for a Nissan 350z on the highway, but this was the first time I had ever seen a bike rack like that. I have trouble keeping my windshield phone suction cup mount from falling down. I would be terrified of losing my bike.

had the pleasure of riding my Rocky Mtn altitude 730 to work today. the joy of cycle commuting will offset the pain of the anticipated vehicle repair bill.

Had a great ride on Sunday. Entered Fish Creek park from the SW Marshal Flats entrance, followed pathway through Fish Creek park, along bow river pathway, through beaver dam flats, into Inglewood, continued down to the zoo, then along memorial down along the river downtown to Edworthy park and back. 85km total.

Just got back from a mtn bike trip to Sedona. It was awesome. I think I like it better than Moab. A little more technical, but the trails had lots of flow, and you could ride them all from town.
A note on airline fees. We used Westjet. Two bikes. Got charged $50 for two oversize and $20 for one extra bag, so $120 in Calgary. We had to keep the bikes under 50lbs so we didnt get charged the $50 overweight fee as well. Leaving Phoenix, we got charged $50 total. The agent there was awesome.
Friends from Vancouver flew with Alaskan airlines out of Bellingham and paid $50/bike each way and had no weight limit so they stuffed all of their gear with the bikes.
Another friend from Calgary flew US airways. Kept his bike under 50lbs. Paid $207 going down and $278 coming back. Insane.

^Well, since it's so easy to take off, you just put it in your trunk when you're leaving your car unattended.
Bossy22, any Sedona pics?

Any recommendations for an extremely entry level women's bike? I'm thinking of getting one for my girlfriend so she can join me on some path rides and whatnot (she hasn't ridden since she was a kid, but would like to get into it). I'd be looking sub-300 dollars if I could. Sportchek seems to have some bikes in that range, mostly made by Nakamura.

other thought would be to look at pinkbike.com and search for a previously enjoyed bike. You may get more bang for your buck.
could also have a look at a locla bike shop (LBS) and see where they are at price point.
Otherwise, likely not a lot of difference between sportchek, sportmart and can tire. if you buy a bike form any of these places, have a good look at it to ensure it is properly assembled and functioning. Then take it for a shakedown ride someplace relatively safe (i.e. don't go screaming down a hill that requires hard braking).

I can't seem to find any concrete answers regarding paves biked paths throughout Nose Hill Park. I have a commuter bike not fit for anything except roads and paved pathways. Two summers agop I attempted to do a Nose Hill ride entering from Edgemont-Shaganappi but all the paths were dirt/rock.
Are there any pathed pathways or plans to pave them? Are the "designated pathways" actually paved because I could have swarn they weren't two summers ago.

Took the wife and kids to Canmore today to bike the local paths there. My daughter is almost 8 and we did about 13 k. She did not complain much. I ducked off thru the trees a few times and gave my new rocky man a taste of dirt, it was sweet. Can't wait to hit the Nordic CRT in a few weeks.

I bought a Giant Roam 2 today. I'm planning to take it for a couple of hours tonight. It was a pretty sweet ride when I took it for a test ride this afternoon. I'm pretty excited with this bike.
