Ok I must be a newb then here because I tried to hookup my Linksys GL Linux Router and I could not get it to work well with the Telus Router even when just Turning off the Wifi. Pretty sure the Telus Router would need to be put into Bridge mode for most to work well with it (is this not the case?). If it doesn't need to be in bridge mode (which no telus person will do for me) then what am I doing wrong that it wouldn't agree with my Router that is 100 times better?

Not sure what you've tried, but this is how I would attempt this:
- Turn off wifi on telus router
- Keep DHCP enabled on telus router
- Set DHCP range to be a block of, say, 50 ip addresses. For instance, if
the telus lan ip address is 192.168.0.1, set dhcp to start at 192.168.0.50 and end at 192.168.0.100
- Turn on wifi on your linksys, setup SSID/security as you want.
- Turn off DHCP on your linksys
- If you have the option to turn off NAT on your linksys, do so. Also, it might help to disable any firewalls that might be on your linksys (if the Telus router has a firewall).
- Set IP address on your linksys to be in the same subnet as the telus router, but outside the dhcp range. For instance, if telus router is setup as in step 3, set the ip address of the linksys to something like 192.168.0.5 (outside the 50-100 range).
- Hook up cable from one of the telus router's ports to a LAN (not WAN) port on the linksys.
That should do it. I haven't done this as I'm on Shaw for internet, but I have a similar setup with Shaw. Good luck!

I think your linksys needs to be set to bridged.

There are tech logins for the telus router found online that will allow you to enable bridge mode. Login with tech/t3lu5tv
Well at least you use to be able to...I don't see it anymore.

I'm really liking Optik TV,had it for about 3 months now and now that I have memorized the channels, I don't miss Shaw at all.
Now if they'd only release the smart remote for Android devices...

Lately, I've seriously considered switching to Telus. From what I can tell, I would gain about 25-30 HD channels for the same price (not to mention getting a whole extra theme package or two). Looks like the only thing I would sacrifice is download speed, which isn't a big issue since I never get over 25 Mbps (despite having 50) on Shaw anyway.

After multiple issues delaying its rollout, TELUS customers in Calgary and Edmonton should now be able to add channels through their TV using their remote. The rollout to other provinces will be phased.

Is the increase in cost significant?

I would jump all over that 50mbps. How do I find out if it is in my area?
I stream to twitch and have a very tech advanced house so really need it.

Just doing some quick searching on this and the upload appears to be in the 10-15Mb/s range, which is insane.
No word on cost though, need to call and see if it is in your area.
EDIT: Found this on dslreports: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r277...-Optik-50-FAQs
2 Plans, one DSL one Optik
Quote:
High Speed 50
Speeds - 45.0 to 50.0Mb/s down, 5.0 to 10.0Mb/s up
Optik 50
Speeds - 25.0 to 50.0Mb/s down, 5.0 to 10.0Mb/s up (fair warning, that's what I recall initially, but seeing on the TELUS site now if I change my service, it just says Up to 50.0Mb/s down
- again, see note above regarding testing this speed
...
Cost - $75.00/month, less any bundle discounts you receive.
Bandwidth Cap (either plan) - 500.0GB/month
As of Feb 1, 2013, this will change to 250.0GB/month.
|
Same unbundled price as Shaw, but cap is lower (as of Feb, 2013).

I've been following it here: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=157626
Most of the info I posted is in Rathji's link above. So far, it looks like some parts of BC (Surrey) and Edmonton have it available right now.
And here's a quote confirming the bandwidth headroom after the HD/SD streams are in use:
Quote:
I have 4 boxes, put 3 on hd, one on sd, didnt affect the speed at all. with over 72mbps profile, using up all the streams still leaves enough headroom for full 50mbps download.

50 mbps? Wow, that'd be nice! I'd love to be able to get just 15mbps or watch 1 channel without losing the signal, let alone 2 or even 3 HD streams. It seems Telus is not even able to get me 1 HD stream however and every time I ask about 25mbps, they say no. Before someone goes saying I need a tech to visit, they wired my phone line completely brand new when they installed and the only jack connected in my house is to the DSL. I wonder if they will ever upgrade/fix the lines in my neighbourhood, or if Nanaimo is just stuck being ghetto until optik no longer exists due to the widespread availability of premium internet content. I'm watching 1 SD channel on my xbox as we speak with nothing recording or downloading and every 10 seconds it loses the signal. It comes back right away after I flip the channel up and down. Sometimes I have to do this once, sometimes 5 times or more before the signal finally sticks, does this happen to anyone else?

I had something similar happen to me with Shaw here in Calgary. The cable in my neighbourhood was so bad that we could not get anywhere close to the internet speeds we were paying for, and it was impossible to get Shaw cable in HD. That forced a switch to Telus, which has been much better.

So stupid that in 2012 they can't even get TV right for goodness sakes! Hopefully things will improve for me, I've never had shaw in HD but next time I switch TV providers, it won't be coming from Telus or Shaw or Bell.

What other service providers are you referring to?

Teksavvy is one option.

I was actually referring to internet content. There are so many series and movies available now legally, and with more HD content than traditional TV; not to mention the independent, uncensored stuff. For the provider of the internet, an independent provider like tekksavvy would be great, although I'm sure you're still paying Telus or Bell in the end anyway because they have to get their connection from somewhere(the independents). There's one year left with my Telus contract, hopefully they can improve their infrastructure a bit by then and convince me not to cancel at the end, or even sooner if I get really fed up. If they can offer 50 mbps in some places, you would think I could get at least 1 HD stream flawlessly in downtown Nanaimo.
