Martin Freeman as Bilbo has been such a treat in this trilogy. I can't find myself getting behind any of the other characters though.. even Legolas who was my favourite in the first trilogy bugs me, he shouldn't even be there! I don't even know who any of the dwarves are because they never flesh them out, just dramatic over reactions in classic Jackson shots.

But all that being said, it will still be an entertaining movie. Especially the battle.

I finally saw the second movie because people said how terrible it was, so it wasn't a priority for me. Can't believe I waited so long, because I totally loved it. Really looking forward to this one!

That looks amazing. CGI again looks off, like they "light" it weird or something.

I wouldn't say too much CGI. Every blockbuster these days is CGI heavy, and a movie like this demands it, but it seems like they skimped on the budget or somehting.

They'd have to put a significant amount of effort in for it to be any worse.

I watched the first two over the weekend. I was a bit lukewarm on DOS. The CGI seemed a little poor in some of the scenes later in the movie with the Orcs and then again with Smaug, the dwarves, and the molten gold.

I am not looking forward to any more Peter Jackson "battles", but I think the rest of the movie should be okay if they flesh out the Necromancer / Sauron a bit. I an not sure if that is entirely made up material, or if Jackson pulled it from some of Tolkien's other writings.

What terrible movies. Like watching video game trailers, but for 2 hours.

Almost 3 hours, but they feel even longer than that for some reason. Pure unadulterated torture.

Its not like Peter Jackson strapped you to a chair and 'Clockwork Oranged' you into watching it.

If you dont like it then dont watch it.

I think they're decent movies, they're not as good as Lord of the Rings but thats like saying your steak at the Keg sucked, it wasnt dogfood but it just wasnt as good as your steak at Ruth's Chris.

Except the Hobbit movies aren't steak at all. It's dogfood CGI'd to look like a steak. It's just a bunch of bombastic CGI action sequences used to extend the runtime since Peter Jackson decided to stretch 2 movies into 3 in lieu of actual story-telling or character development.[/personal opinion]

Okay but so what? Peter Jackson's 'dogfood' movies are better than 95% of the rest of the garbage that Hollywood craps down our throats on an annual basis.
