Celtic Frost came back in the 2000s so I guess they wouldn't count as breaking up and never coming back.

Yeah, but they quit again! (Then basically reformed again as Triptykon...)

Stormtroopers of Death (SOD)
Death
Superjoint Ritual is kind of obscure.
System of a Down put out Hypnotize in 2005 but continue to perform live so I guess they don't really count. Just trying hard here.
Awww Death. My favorite band. Such a shame that I will never listen to another Schuldiner riff ever again.

I already picked on this song, but I have to again mostly because Kalmah released their second song and it is superb.

This Bodom song is extremely weak. The intro sucks, the verse is as generic as they come and the chorus slow melody feels like its been done before in other Bodom songs.

I think I can safely say I am no longer looking forward to the new Bodom album. Having heard this and Halo of Blood, this album is looking to be another borefest. Blooddrunk at least had 2 good songs, Hellbounds on my Trail and Roadkill Morning everything else from that album was brutal (in a bad way).

Yeah, I'm still going to get both though lol. I love both bands.

But you're right this Kalmah song is ****ing incredible.

I also can't stop listening to After Forever's version of Alone

I realize it's not metal but man her voice is insane. She nails this song which isn't and easy feat by any stretch.

Any other Satyricon fans? Very excited for the new album, whenever it comes out. Age of Nero was released in 2008. It's been a loooong time.

“The recording is coming to an end. Next week will be the last before the mix. Finally some light at the end of the tunnel after almost four months of recording! Right now I am just looking forward to share this with you and see what you think. It will be a while though, but it will be worth it. I am sure.”
I've been tracking the progress on this site. It's pretty good:

Love Love LOVE this band!

Do I have to add NSFW for language in a metal thread?

Two albums likely to be in my top 3/4 for 2013 just got released recently.
Church of Misery - Thy Kingdom Scum (a Japanese doom band)

The Monolith Deathcult - Tetragrammaton (a Dutch industrial death metal band)

I am coming to Calgary for the Stampede this weekend and was also going to see Kiss on Saturday, gutted that it was cancelled. They are one of the few classic rock bands that I would like to see that I haven't had the opportunity too, oh well.

Damn! I can't believe it's taken almost 38 pages before someone mentioned Dissection (unless of course there was a video post as all I did was a text search). If you've never listened to Dissection and you are into the more extreme progressive bands such as Opeth or Edge of Sanity then you OWE it to yourself to give The Somberlain, Storm of the Light's Bane http://youtu.be/PnKVYkOo9-Y and even Reinkaos a full listen. Hell, ANY metal head owes it to themselves to give Storm an attentive listen from start to finish as it is fantastic.

Nödtveidt (not to condone some of his actions/beliefs mind you) was a musical genius. I know critics and a lot of fans panned Reinkaos, but to my ears it is brilliant. I must admit I'd avoided it for the longest time due to the reviews and stuck only to Somberlain and Storm. Anyway, Jon and Dissection were truly innovators in the metal world.
