Yeah that's a bummer. Those teams are trash. Neither deserves to make the playoffs.

Due to the tiebreaker situations....the Jays' magic number should now be the same (2) for both the Astros and Mariners, right? Whatever the outcome, it should be an interesting weekend to close out the season. Tough sledding for the Jays to possibly (if both the Astros/Ms win out) have to beat the Rays 2/3 3x in 2 weeks to advance to the Division Series. But wouldn't that be something?

Yes, a win tonight and a loss by either Seattle or Houston and they're in.

So essentially a 3 game playoffs for the Jays already.
Do we know if the Rays are resting any regulars yet?

They are 1 and 2 wins different than TO....so what does that make the Jays?

The Jays are in a completely different situation based on the division they play in. If you look at how competative each team is the AL East they have on average 12 more wins than the AL West. Given that you play the most games against your division the Jays would probably have a better record in the AL West if they took the spot of Texas/Seattle/Houston.
The Jays only got to play the A's 6 times while the AL West got to play them 13 times. Those 7 games are a huge difference in the standings at this time of the year.

The Jays are a team with a horribly underachieving offence, that still has the potential to break out in October.
They are also a team with the 2nd best team ERA in the Majors, which is why oddsmakers give them a better chance of a world series than the Rays, even before the Jays have clinched the Playoffs.

I dont disagree....but the Mariners are not "trash", nor are the Rangers aside from the last month (except when, you know, they swept the Jays at Rogers)

The Rangers, Ray's, and Orioles are the only AL teams with winning records against +500 teams.
Everyone else is trash!

Jody Matheson set a personal record on Tuesday, as the Toronto Blue Jays played the New York Yankees in Toronto. But it wasn't with a big hit, or a record amount of strikeouts.
Matheson and his friend Ryan Rushton, who both grew up in Brantford, Ont., are the self-proclaimed Loonie Dog Kings, and they wear the big hot dog outfits to match the title.
Matheson ate his 105th hot dog of the season.
Every Tuesday Jays game, concessions at the Rogers Centre sells hot dogs for just a dollar each.
This season the Jays hosted 11 such nights, and according to the team, it was a record-breaking year for the promotion. Fans chowed down on 693,865 hot dogs, an increase of over 200,000 than in 2022.
Matheson and Rushton ate a combined 245 hot dogs, with Rushton eating 140 alone.

I'm just glad we won't have to see any more Loonie Dog commercials until next year.

As unlikley as it is, sadly they do not clinch with just a Jays win & Houston loss.
If that happens, there is still a scenario where all 4 teams end up with 89 wins (Jays finish 0-2 against TB, HOU wins last 2 against ARI, and Seattle wins final 3 against TEX). in that weird scenario, Texas, Houston, Seattle, and the Jays would all have 89 wins and the Jays would lose that tiebreaker scenario.

I know they would lose the tiebreaker to Seattle, but there would be two wild card spots up for grabs in that scenario, no?
Edit - I guess Houston would get the division somehow and the Jays lose tiebreakers to Texas and Seattle? Maaan.

Yeah, it’s so unlikely - but would be risky for the Jays to celebrate a clinch until it’s technically 100%

If that's the case then Blake Murphy was wrong on Jay's Talk this morning because they were talking about how if they won tonight they would have to sit and hope either Seattle or Houston lost instead of celebrating right after the game.
Unless I misheard him and he said 'and'.

With the way the Jays season has gone I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make the playoffs because of the tiebreaker scenario

With Tampa locked into 1st wildcard they will be resting a lot players and leaving their top starters for the first 2 WC games. Which helps.

As someone said on some talk show I heard this morning - it is very much in Tampa's interests to win these games, and force Toronto to have to use Gausman in game 162.
For the Jays, they need to win TONIGHT!

Giants fire Kapler. Doesn't seem like a bad option for consideration this off-season. Need someone well respected yet can be professional and make good decisions.
