Would he? His head is already busy trying to keep Man Woman Person Camera TV all in the correct order. He only ever got surface level one page briefings because he's got the attention span of a spastic squirrel. Could you imagine trying to get anything useful out of his head? he'd exhaust you.

I know he’s an idiot, but he must have info that he can share that he couldn’t while being constantly monitored. I guess he’s still monitored, and I don’t know the legality of him blabbing to foreign entities post presidency, but I can’t get past the thought that he is a threat still.

I giggled at the image of trying to get useful info out of him, but yes, I truly think he has invaluable state secrets, despite his attention span.
I am actually disappointed in that regard, I was kind of hoping a silver lining of a Trump win in 2016 was the public might get access to some secrets the US didn't want released, and a typical president wouldn't release. I was hoping his carelessness would have released more, but all I can really recall was the satellite pics in Iran.
I don't mean info that could get people killed, but like area 51 stuff or other random things.

After the events of yesterday, no way Biden allows Trump to keep his security clearances.

Again, maybe naïve, but I still think he protected by the respect of the office of the presidency by the American system.
What respect of the office remains? I don't know. I just feel (without any proof to really support my position) he won't go to jail

Not for nothing, but there are hundreds of volumes of books worth of evidence of Trump committing crimes just in his four years as president, to say nothing of the previous 72 years of his life.
Michael Cohen went to prison because the Individual-1 in his plea bargain is Donald Trump.
Robert Mueller indicted dozens of people, convicted them, and would’ve done the same to Trump but for the DOJ policy that contends a sitting president cannot be indicted because the remedy for presidential misconduct is impeachment.
The Mueller report is a referral for impeachment. It’s proof.
We haven’t even gotten to his state crimes. Or his coup.
“No proof” indeed.

Ya my mistake, I thought I got my ninja edit in-time before someone could quote me. I didn't mean no proof of Trumps actions and after rereading what I wrote I realized how it could sound. Please see the updated post
I only meant my position that he won't go to jail is based on a feeling without proof, i.e. I have nothing to stand on

He's definitely not going to jail federally, even without any pardons in place. I doubt the state charges go anywhere either. They'll likely get pressure to just let everything go away. The US is so insanely partisan now that they just don't want any potential optics of legally going after the other party's president after he leaves office. Regardless of how much it's needed and how much he deserves it, I just don't see it happening.

Do you think we would see a Canadian PM in jail for similar actions/charges?
Again, I don't know why, I just don't see it. No proof to support my position as with before.
I don't mean to derail this thread, I bring up Canada as a point that it may not be American partisan that prevents jail time, just the office itself.

They've been the adults in the room and this is the result. Sometimes the adults need to put the children in timeout and take their toys away until they learn to play nice with others.

24 hours ago i would have agreed.
Now? There has been a clear and stark shift by many in the GOP and there would be very little desire to be seen as defending Trump and calling it bipartisanship to charge him with crimes the entire country got to watch live and in full color.
This is a "come to jesus" moment (starting with the phone call recording) for the country and particularly the republicans. No one will want to be viewed as preventing that from playing out.
Guys like Hawley and Tuberville and Cruz will carry on with the nonsense but their political careers are effectively over beyond where they are now, so they will have little support.

If Trump goes to jail every Democratic president will face charges the day they leave office. Guaranteed. It will be like the terminal days of the Roman Republic where consuls were all brought up on charges by their political enemies when their terms in office were up. That ended poorly.
