Avowed reviews look pretty good. Which sucks because I just started toying with Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 where I may just live forever as a blacksmith.

Eh, it looks kinda dumpy if you ask me. Basically every AAA game, unless it's a trainwreck, will score a high 70's / low 80's average at worst, especially first party games that always get inflated scores from "PlayStationSuperFans.com" or "XboxGamersUnited.com".
Civilization VII apparently sucks but it's averaging 8/10 from the critics too.
How do you play so many games so quickly? What are your settings? How many games do you just sim? I never make it through a season but I play all the games and don't sim a thing.
Ya, same. I don't sim anything. I have 5 minute periods, so each game usually clocks in at around 15 minutes. 100 games in a season + playoffs, so that comes to about 1500 minutes or 25 hours. I don't really spend any time managing anything (I find almost everything beyond the games themselves kinda boring), so no setting concession prices or even looking for trades.
I'm currently at 102 hours for NHL 25 and that tracks as I've become hopelessly addicted to it like no other NHL game before it. I'm about ¼ into season 4 already, so maybe my seasons are closer to 30 hours?

That's fair, will have to check out a few detailed reviews to see.

Played Civ VII for about an hour last night and I'm not really sure where all of the hate is coming from. I think it's maybe diehards that are upset that they've changed a few of the mechanics. I'm also wondering if many of the complaints came in before Firaxis released a couple of patches.
I did also see some comments online from right-wingers, who are big mad because apparently the game is now "woke."
Billed as a Metal Slug homage meets Metroidvania design. Just a few early reviews that are all positive and it looks great! Out on Steam and Switch now.

I played for a bit and it’s ok. I’m not sure how I feel about the towns vs cities mechanic. I had a town taken without even showing it get attacked. Hopefully you can change that in the settings.
I can’t imagine what they consider woke. Not enough white male leaders?
There’s a native Linux build so it works great on Steam Deck.

Yeah Vic from EPN gave it a 6.5 and our tastes normally align. Backlog is too large to play 6.5s and 7s.

That's definitely been patched. I was immediately notified when opposing forces entered my townships while I was playing last night.

I've been playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider. I am at the "final boss" and not sure I'll be able to beat it. Until now, I had to play only games where I was able to switch the analog sticks. SOTTR is the 1st game I've been able to get my brain to rework itself and learn to use the sticks properly. I'm just not proficient enough yet, I don't think, for this final fight. But, I have enjoyed this game, so much.
This is actually a pretty good review of Civ VII and kind of captures my feelings on it. It's a perfectly fine game, but it doesn't really feel like a Civilization game. Feels like an improved version of Humankind.
It would be great Firaxis could figure out a formula that appeases both sides. I jumped from Civ 3 to Civ 6, skipping 4&5 in the process because I didn't have a computer that could play either.
Civ 3 was awesome for the most part, especially when it came to city-planning and diplomacy. However, the micro-managing of squares became pretty tedious at times (especially towards the end of the game) and the RNG combat system was beyond ridiculous.
Civ 6 improved the combat system and removed most of the unnecessary and tedious management task. However it also kind of sapped a lot of the urban-planning aspects that I loved about Civ 3. Both Civs 3&6 suffered from the endgame crawl.
Civ 7 definitely improves again on the combat mechanics, but really dumbs down and streamlines urban-planning and diplomacy. I can't speak to the new eras system because I haven't gotten that far into a game yet. However, it all feels a little sterile. I'd wager that trying to make the game playable on so many more platforms is a major reason for the changes that I don't personally like.
I do think it'll become a better game as Firaxis tweaks it a bit more, but I'm not sure we'll ever get the "classic" Civ experience again unless the mod community can figure a way to coax it out of the game's code.
In my opinion Civ 6 only got good after the expansions came out. I didn’t play it that much before, but what I did play felt a bit unfinished. Even after the expansions I still used a bunch of UI mods to improve the experience. I expect 7 will be the same. I’ll probably wait until at least the first expansion is out before buying it.
Anyone here play the new Civ yet? The reviews are really bad so far dang.
I love it so far. Loved every Civ since 2, and never play higher than King because I lose. I'm like 1500 hours in Civ 6 but way more than that in previous ones.
I was hoping for a new experience as I felt like 6 didn't stray far enough from 5 to be a really new game and it's nailed it for me. I'm not super competitive needing a challenge. I love to see things I do take on organic growth and unexpected things happen making it a different experience each time.
The coolest thing about this game for me so far is that you're kind of playing 3 games in a row that are connected but not with a straight line. Makes for fun experiences. Those who like a challenge may not like done if the apparently unbalanced leader/Civ choices, but I play for fun, not challenge
