There are a lot of positives in this game and some negatives. I think the AH is one of the negs, but on the whole it's pretty fun. I'm enjoying it a lot.

I think what kills the game is the open AH. In D2, I played with what I or my buddy found. If I didnt find the item in the game, I didn't have it. Made the game more challenging, I beat Baal on Hell with below average gear (best item were Magefists haha, not a single SOJ for example).
Now? Having problems dealing damage? No probs, AH to the rescue. Having problems finding decent armour? No probs, AH to the rescue. Sure, you don't HAVE to, but with the way the game works now, without decent equipment you are dead in the water. I started with DH, and the 1H crossbows I found in Act 1 dealt less than 50% damage than 1H crossbows that sell for 200 gold. Does ANYONE play only with gear/weapons they find? I'd be more than half of people's gear comes from AH. And you can't really play any other way because the stuff I keep finding is simply underpowered to stuff that's almost for free on AH.
Sure, as I level up I will find more gear but people playing 24/7 will naturally find more stuff and put it up on AH and you simply have to give in a buy stuff from there because you cant kill a fly with "normal" drops.

Have yet to use AH. Boss runs only for me. You choose to use AH, not a requirement.

I think most of these "not the same as Diablo 2" posts are the result of people being 10 years older. It's pretty much the same thing.

All my current equipment was dropped not from the AH (although I did equip the Templar with stuff from the AH)
I find it ridiculous that gems that you can only get in the latter stages of hell sell for like 1200 or less.

Sure, I said so in my post as well. But good luck going against the butcher with a weapon that deals 14 damage without armour with high defense and + life. His health bar barely moves while you can die with one hit.

Interesting. Lots of previous posts full of "I equipped my char for under 100k today" or "I got managed to snag this killer item for a bargain."

Yes, I did prior to that but I got lucky with a handful of good drops in the last day or so.

I finished nightmare. Barely into hell.
My complaints.
Packs of blues mobs being tougher the Yellow mobs or actual bosses. I really think it should be the other way around. I dont mind dying repeatedly and changing skills if it is a boss.... But for mobs that are just on the path to getting further? Kinda lame.
Auction House. I lasted till about level 40 before i started buying stuff from it and i only biy gems or weapons. First, its ######ed how easy gems are to acquire and how cheap they are on th AH. If they are that easy to get then make sure u cant get them back from your sockets or actually make them more rare. It sucks i have to but a new weap every 3-5 levels now to feel normal. Really sucks that u are soooo undere powered without biying gear off the AH.
Other then that im glad they did not deviate to far away from D2. i got a nice fun build going where my enemies are incapacitated for some time.
Typing from touch screen phone so sorry for typos hahahah

Photon, the general rule of thumb with any Diablo game before you need resistance gear (pre hell imo) is to stack Vitality #1 and your primary damage stat #2. Easiest way to do this is to use the AH to find gear with your two primary stats you want, set the threshold for those stats (I usually go between 50-60 on my act 2 nm monk). Then set your buyout price. Check a few times a day while you are playing, and I guarantee you will start to find gear with your stats for really cheap. The trick is that once you have set your threshold stats, if the price is cheap buy it immediately, don't stop to look at the stats. If you stop, the item will be bought by someone else. Something I've learned the hard way.
For comparison, I have a lvl 38 monk with 13000hp and over 800 dps. He can solo anything easily, pulling multiple mobs and champion packs. So far I haven't died once in Nightmare, and facerolled my way through act 1 and most of act 2.

Exactly what I was talking about. You are cruising through the game because you are using gear you did not find...

Reset quests to previous quests. Kill #### again.
???
Profit
There is absolutely NO reason to use AH if you don't want too.

Soloing hell is crazy.
I'm on Act three and it's very difficult. Basically have to inch your way along one step at a time.

My friend has already Act 3 on Inferno in the first week of release. I don't see people sticking with this for long, unless they release new content in 2-3 months.. which I doubt. The re playability isn't the same as D2... maybe because D2 was a fresh new thing for the gaming world back in the day and there was nothing like it before. It's sad... cause I truly love the Diablo series.

D2 also took forever to get to max level so that could be part of it.

When does the game picks up? I'm midway Act I and I find the game incredibly boring and repetitive.
I guess I burnt my Diablo addiction from playing D2 too much.

I found act 1 to be a bit dry up to the skeleton king. After that it started to get more interesting. The final boss is awesome.
I blew through Act 2 with a friend paying almost no attention to the story - frankly don't remember much of it.
Act 3 was really engaging - there was a definite sense of urgency in the story and the packs of enemies are huge. At no point did feel a sense of "are we there yet?" (got it all the time in act 3 in Diablo 2).
There is also a fart monster in Act 3. Literally, a fart monster.
