NYR are going to finish bottom 5 so basically a late 1st right?

Highly doubt it. How many times do teams trade a top 10 pick? Hardly. If we lose out on McKenna/Stenberg, I doubt a few 2nds and our own pick would help us trade up. The team that wins McKenna/Stenberg are going to make those selections.
These are merely darts for the scouts that have already picked great value with late picks outside the top 32. Utah had plenty of picks to spare and are using them for an upgrade.

Maybe I missed it but when was the last time the Flames picked up somebody’s mediocre prospect that turned into something big?

Maybe that’s not even the last time, looking at Weibe’s trajectory.

The prospect is a bit underwhelming, but three 2nd round picks in addition to our own, plus at least two 1st round picks is a lot of leverage in this draft. This is solid asset management by Conroy.

If all the picks are in 2026, they're currently 35 (NYR), 46 (OTT), and 49 (UTA)... and the Flames' own is 36.
3 top-50 picks isn't bad.

Happy with that return. Right now, those picks would be 34, 45 and 47, I think. So we'd currently sit at
4
21
34
35
45
47

It’s four prospects and a roster player who won’t help them win a single extra game.
What were you expecting?
