I wonder if the Canucks would be playing with more confidence if they had a healthy Demko in net. Not that the other goalies have been bad, but Demko probably gives them a better mental push.

I would be ecstatic if Vancouver paid him 5X5. Give him a full NMC as well.

It's a nice rush but a terrible goal to give up, not sure what Saros was doing there. Zadorov is high event...both ends. If he gets 5x5 someone will regret it.

Crazy innit.
Tanev made $4.5 over the last 4 years. This season he had 19 points. His normal pace. Zadorov had 20 points also. Which is also his normal pace.
I know who I'd rather have on my team.

Yup. It's not just the points either.
Zadorov is an adventure from shift to shift. He can be fun to watch and maddening but I would rather he do that on another team, and have a steady guy like Tanev.

High risk, high-reward player. It's probably why he's bounced around from teams. He's definitely entertaining though.

And the Canucks wouldn't give him that and let him walk for nothing

Canucks only have two defensemen, Hughes and Soucy signed for next year.
Oh and OEL playing in Florida of course. Next year it's a 2.3 cap hit, then 2 years at 4.7, then 2.1 for another 4 seasons ending in 2031.
Simply hilarious.
The Canucks are no good.

Why not both? I'll take them both back.

The Canucks will be pushing for both too.
Tanev is going to get over paid every dollar he was underpaid on his Flames contract. It's going to be massive for his age.

The reward isn't even that high, is what I'm saying. He scores a few memorable goals. But really not that many. He had 6 goals this year. Other than his outlier 2nd season in Calgary, his career high was 7.
Plus he took 102 PMs in 54 games in Vancouver. 20m of those were 4 fights (a career high), leaving a whole number of PKs caused.

Paying a guy based on his contract year always ends up well...

Zadorov is going to be a contract that ages badly...I want Tanev back not Zadorov, if we are talking about the Flames.
I would be happy with the Canucks giving him 5x5

Zadorov is a really good #4 or #5 defenseman on a contender. If you have the cap space, $5 million per year on a short-term contract isn't a bad investment (like 2 or 3 years max). I wouldn't invest in him deep into his 30s though.
I would also rather have Tanev for that money, but again, only on a short term deal, and you probably can't have both players at the same time for that cap hit.

What contender has 5M in cap space for a #5 though and yes the term is the issue...short term who cares unless it blocks something else. He scored his goal but was also at least partially to blame for the Preds goal shortly thereafter. Zadorov that is, Tanev has been a rock.

I don't see it, based on the interest level at the deadline. Every playoff team was interested, but none were willing to pay too much to get him.
I can't see anything more than maybe 3 X $5

Correct. Teams were unwilling to pay assets for a player they can sign for free in three months with the cap going up.
That being said I don't expect it to be much over 5. I do think a team will be stupid and give him 4+ years again though.
