I’m not bothered by Venom even though it’s not a traditional choice. As I type that I’m talking myself out of it as it’s the equivalent of spit or sperm. Those are lame team names.

Mountaineers seems like something that could have been used historically so it seems alright to me but probably sucks in a stadium chant.

I like something around bees but hive and swarm isn’t it.

They have flipped, flopped on this nonsense how many times a this point!! It makes no sense and is strange that a pro sports team would not have a name on merchandise available to purchase, just the name of the location they are in??

Recently when the players went to visit Utah , it was made clear to them they would be associated with a team name. They didn't want the team players to be shortchanged in anything starting off. Previously it was the arena, the flip flop on ownership, false promises, pay for road games, hotels on the road and a lot more.

Just weird overall! I don't like the names for Vegas and Seattle but I am sure they can come up with something reasonable in a short period of time.

"Washington Football Team" sold plenty of merch. Presumably not as much as if they had an actual name, but definitely a non-zero number... and that's in a market where the team has been around for decades.

Utah as a brand new team will sell plenty of merch even without a name, and those same people will then go buy all their merch again once the name comes out.

Yeah it's usually is a longer time frame for the league then Utah has for 25/26, if any current team wants to do a uniform change or add a new secondary logo etc. Those changes, in time for the 2025-26 season would already be to the league to go through the approval process by now.

Name first, I assume within a month, and then logos and team colors set by mid summer, so that the uniforms can be designed and then pushing the branding and start on merchandise.

My guess is whatever generic name (HC) or uniforms they use (dust off the mid 80s Campbell All star unis) this year will go over so well in Utah and maybe around the league, even as a bit of a joke, that some element of that will unexpectedly be in the permanent branding or uniforms.

Utah Nomads would be fitting as well, given their history.

I am not a big fan of singular names, but Venom does have some decent imagery and logo potential I guess. Should just go with Scorpions or Rattlesnakes.

A lot of those names sound like defunct lower level UHL and IHL teams. Yetis is still the frontrunner probably, but perhaps they circle back to a Bee-related theme.
