Incredible performance out there, they did everyone proud. Sometimes sports are cruel and you can’t find that goal when you need it.

Bring on Croatia

My Dad is already predicting a Croatia loss. He was really impressed with Canada

Canada was full of piss and vinegar and Croatia was timid. Morocco are a strong side.

The group is wide open IMO.

Huh? Dude made 3 saves and all of them were pretty routine.

Canada deserve so much more here today.

Belgium could not handle the press or the pace that Canada had on the wings.

Well...the Penalty save was good considering the Keeper's disadvantage. Even with a poorly taken Pen they're hard to stop. A slight hesitation, a wrong guess and even a bad pen goes in.

And it was a badly taken penalty. Sorry Davies, theres no glossing that over.

Courtois is no slouch, but yeah, its not like he hauled anything out of the top drawer or anything.

The finishing needs work. Lots of positives to take out of this game, but I think we can all understand that there was a result here for the taking and we didnt.

Canada was always in tough to make it out of the group, but now they really, really have their backs to the wall.

I think we need a separate thread for Sunday. Maybe a combined GDT/GT/PGT. Feels like a big enough deal to warrant it and it’ll make following this thread easier with so many posts. Leave this for other games.

Guessing right on a penalty chance is routine?

I got there about 8:40 and got one of the last tables. Should’ve gotten there earlier!

They always had to beat Morocco and at least get a draw against Croatia.

Losing 1-0 to Belgium after Croatia and Morocco tied far exceeds my expectations of our chances of getting to round 2.

Belgium is the second ranked team in the world. They were missing a key player, but their subs are no slouches. Canada didn't wall up and hope like we see opposition do to Team Canada when we play the Swiss / Germans in hockey. Canada was pressing for an equalizer.

Step one is score a goal.
Step two is get a WC point
Step three is win a game

Getting out of the round is within grasp as well as the three goals above. Pretty awesome.

The penalty miss does hurt and if I had to guess Davies looked to be playing at about 70%.

But man that penalty miss is killer. I think the energy that would have brought team potentially would have led to them taking all three points today.

I thought they might wilt after that penalty miss, but to their credit they kept the pressure on. Honestly would have loved to see what this match looks like if they score there because I think it would have fueled them to do even more.

I agree, except I think the win may be as likely to come against Croatia (my former fave WC side) as against Morocco. Croatia are not spring chickens, and Canada has attacking pace. Just need to keep running at them (and actually scoring this time).

Canada will be in tough against Croatia on Sunday. Croatia will go all out since they considered they have dropped points today.

Canada proved they belong. That was a tremendous effort.

The difference was the lack of finish, obviously. But I believe that if he scores on the PK, they end the game with 3 goals.

Unfortunate to come away with no points, but a win and a draw the rest of the way likely gets them in. We need Belgium to win their remaining games.

As for the Belgian goalie only having routine saves... that is a hell of a take.

Not only did he save the PK, but the save in the 2nd half on the header (from Larin?) was a terrific save. The save of the game, easily.

Also, how bad of a manager is Roberto Martinez? Guy has been in charge of Belgium for about 3-4 international tournaments now and they have always underachieved. Not taking anything away from Herdman. He had a great gameplan for Belgium, but Martinez is awful and I don't understand why Belgium have kept him on for so long.
