“Taking Tkachuk off our hands”, like they’d be doing us a favour?

1. This is just made up nonsense.
2. They could easily recoup assets for him if needed. He’s an RFA. The timeline for resolving the Eichel situation is now. The timeline for resolving Tkachuk is next year.

It Tkachuk was signed to a ten year, fifty million dollar contract, his trade value would be a lot higher. He can just play this contract out and then get paid nine million each season for the next two seasons, and then become and unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2024.

1. He's good friends with Noah Hanifin
2. A 1-2 punch of Eichel - Lindholm gives the Flames one of the best centre depths in the league
3. Respected Stanley Cup Champion coach
4. It's a trade, he has no say in where he goes
5. Vezina quality goaltending
6. Johnny Gaudreau (and Matthew Tkachuk, and Elias Lindholm, and Andrew Mangiapane)

Eichel isn’t a free agent, and doesn’t have trade protections.
I’m sure he’d love to go to Vegas - Buffalo surely doesn’t want to trade him out of the rust capital of the world to a destination city like LV.
Simply out of spite, you’d think They’d rather send him to Canada, where the taxes are higher and the weather is worse.

That's kind of my point. Why trade the farm for a player that isn't eager to come here? Also, I'm not sure that playing with Johnny Gaudreau is much of a selling point. He clearly has no interest in sticking around once this season is over, we we will either trade him for picks at the deadline or lose him for nothing.

You are assuming the Blues would pay him 9M+

So...you're just making things up, and generally being negative for no reason.

See Mark Stone.
What’s remaining from doing that deal for Ottawa??
Oscar Lindberg only ended up playing 20 games for Ottawa with 3 goals and a couple helpers before jetting off to play in a Swiss-a league and bow the KHL.
Erik Brannstrom has played broken up seasons between the AHL and NHL over the past 3 seasons since the Stone trade playing just 63 nhl games and finding himself starting in the AHL this year. Kylington type player with a higher draft position.
A 2nd rounder who turned out to be Egor Sokolov who’s yet to suit up for his first NHL game but has put up decent numbers in the AHL during his rookie season and appears to be off to a solid start this year.
Hardly a kings ransom for Mark Stone because Ottawa was between a rock and a hard place and teams realized this. It will be no different with Tkachuk if Treliving follows the same trajectory with the contract as the Sens did with Stone.

“Talks have cooled”
“Talks are heating up”
Eyeroll. There’s only so many asset permutations you can negotiate around, to have it take this long is straight up bizarre. If I was Eichel I would 1,000% be filing a grievance.
Hey Buffalo- if you’re not getting what you think he’s worth, maybe he just isn’t worth what you think he’s worth? Like newsflash, he’s worth what the market will pay and it isn’t getting better for you. So dumb.

I’m curious, but isn’t the “grievance” technically still on the Sabres’ side of this? I’m good with what Eichel is doing, but isn’t it him who is violating his contract by not undergoing the recommended treatment of the teams doctors and sitting out?

1. Because he’s under contract for four more seasons after this one.
2. Because acquiring him is the best way to convince Gaudreau (and Tkachuk) to stay.

So ten million on Eichel, nine million on Tkachuk, and likely somewhere around the same money for Gaudreau? How can we pay all three of them and stay under the cap? This trade just doesn't make any sense for either side. Flames fans are dreaming if they think we're going to get Eichel.

The CBA rule saying you can't make cap-clearing roster moves to accommodate trades totally handcuffs the Flames

Well. The cap’s $80M, and they just started a mega deal with ESPN and TNT.
So it’s going up.
Guess they’ll have to try and figure out how to fill out the rest of the roster with $50M.
I hope they’re up to it.

These blanket statements are annoying. Sure fans have something to be hopeful and excited about and your negativity shines through.

See Duchene (trade 1 and 2), Karlsson, O’Reilly… etc. One trade not working out doesn’t mean high caliber players aren’t traded for great returns with soon to expire contracts.
Also why are we pretending Buffalo isn’t between a rock and a hard place?

If the price is too high for us and vegas gets him, then so be it.
But if we miss out because Tre ran our numbers up to the cap and the salary going back to buffalo isn't to their liking, then i'm washing my rage pillow for heavy use.

Is there are possible way to fit Eichel plus new contracts for Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Mangiapane under the cap next year? We're looking at adding about $17 to $20 million in cap hits.
