Trump withdrawing the US from the TPP did in both and gave China a big advantage in the region. To make matters worse, Trump started a trade war, where the US got its head caved in, negatively impacting almost all industries and especially costs to main street. Trump never thought strategically about global politics, never cared for alliances, and never thought about timeframes longer than an episode of Fox & Friends. Trump was a disaster in every way and the United States (and the world) will be feeling his incompetence for decades to come. WORST president in American history.

To be fair, Hilary in the end said she would scrap the TPP, but that may of just been pandering in a last ditch effort to get elected.
As for the trade war, from what I understand- huge short term consequences short term, however, I think there is more too it, given the Democratic agreement to not remove the tariffs.

It's nice to see a pretty noticeable change in American politics since Biden took over. Back to mostly boring, policy things with a decreasing amount of ridiculous things except when it's about the former president. Once the Senate trial is done, it'll get even more boring which I think we'll all be happy about.

I don't think so - once Trump is not convicted by the Senate he will immediately start his 2024 campaign.

Ya, but it will be easy to ignore now, since his only platform will be Fox, and other platforms no one with a brain follows. We aren't going to be subject to his daily insane ramblings vie Twitter being turned into news stories.

You're potentially right, but that will be a side story and Trump won't be the main story all day, every day, which is great. Maybe a 3 minute segment about it, instead of 20 of 24 hours of every major network talking about Trump.

It's weird seeing the late night hosts slowly transition back to non-political talk.
I notice Seth still is doing the political thing. Not sure on Colbert. Wonder if they'll go that angle but I just don't see much success, that area has too much competition already with Daily Show, Last Week and others doing it better already.

I didn't watch Seth prior to Trump, and only have since really watched his Trump pieces (i.e. Closer Look). Of all the late night hosts, I feel like he has the most to lose without Trump.
Oliver likely has the least to lose, if you consider him late night. He even resisted mentioning Trump on his show longer than the rest.

I think Colbert was always going to lean on politics as it was his bread and butter. It was just coincidence that he got the Late Show around the same time as Trump blew up and became president.

His is the one I could see sticking around with a political leaning. For the others, I can't wait to see them return to making fun of celebrities instead of constant political monologues.

Everyone thought when Obama took Bush out of the media picture, these talk shows would be in the same position. They did fine, they'll do fine after. There is no shortage of garbage news to discuss.

I think, of all the good of having him out of office (Trump), the thing that is most important is I hopefully never have to hear another person try to impersonate him or his stupid voice ever again.
THAT is the most important win here.

Conan had a long running joke about Obama not liking beets...like it was the only thing they could go after him for.

The discussion was about what they'll talk about post trump. Will some stay in the political arena? Which will go back to the normal celebrity talk?

Seth was always political. When he took over Late Night the rantings tanked. He took a risk and said "I got here because of Weekend Update so let's ditch the monolog which isn't working and start the show with Weekend Update".
Then ratings took off.
You'll have less Closer Looks, and more of his other segments that have taken a backseat due to the craziness of Trump.

Can we just take this moment to enjoy normality again? I mean no more daily craziness from Trump, normal news cycle.. It's back to being boring news, and I for one am exhausted after the Trump years, this is truly refreshing to get back to some sense of normality again.

Colbert will always be political. Political stuff was the backbone of the Colbert Report.
Oliver's show has always been political in a sense, it just wasn't always expressly focused on specific politicians or administrations. He'll likely just go back to talking about stuff like net neutrality and global warming and civil forfeiture and keep making plenty of jokes about the various officials centred in those stories.

Colbert will do just fine . He got lots to works with.
Myers will be fine . Theres still lots of crazy news to go around . Trumps gone but Florida man still lives and seemed to have spread out through out the USA now.
