Horrible mismanagement of the salary cap.

DidierRDS:
The Alouettes are currently $300k over the salary cap. They have eight weeks to "fix" this problem.

It just takes a few rotten apples to spoil it unfortunately...

A Winnipeg mother is angry after Blue Bomber fans lashed out and poured beer on her nine-year-old son for wearing a green sweater to the weekend Banjo Bowl against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Janelle-Marie Emond was excited to take her son to their first game at Investors Group Field after she received tickets from a friend.

"We were in the fanatical section I guess, where fans are really outrageous and loud," Emond said.

The Blue Bombers beat the Roughriders 17-10 on Saturday afternoon, but Emond said fans were anything but cheerful toward her son, who was wearing a green sweater because he was cold.

"It was a green Billabong sweater and he was wearing a Bomber T-shirt underneath, that you could clearly see," Emond said.

Yikes.

Quote:
Emond said a man in his 50s was throwing a football and the ball landed close to her son, and that's when she said the man started insulting her.

"Then he started saying like super mean things about me being large and he said, 'Why don't you go on the weight training, go train with the Riders and maybe they'll play better next time!'

"And then my son yells back, 'We live here!' and I was so proud of him for screaming that," Emond said.

Some Roughrider fans saw the incident in the parking lot and stepped in to help.

Emond said a woman gave her son a hug and she said it calmed him down, adding she wished she knew the woman's name so she could send her a note to thank her.

CFL has a game atmosphere issue for sure.
Not a great family environment.
Alcohol is a big factor, but just in general a lot of real twits in the stands.

A friend of mine is a massive Stamps fan. She took her family up to Commonwealth for the West final last year, first time her mother has ever attended a game other than McMahon. Someone heckled them so badly that they won't ever go back. And she is a fan who used to go go to the return game in EDM after Labour Day, and has annually gone to an away game to see all the fields around the league.

She is totally on board with friendly razzing but that was over the top abuse; she won't go back.

I generally feel McMahon isn't that bad unless the Riders are in town or Labour Day.

The circus lives on Montreal. Also, saw a tweet where Cato yelled at Stafford and Carter calling them "pussies". Fans apparently heard Cato also say, "that's why we're 3-8 and that's why we're gonna be 3-9"

I've took some serious abuse in Edmonton on the LD rematch just walking into the stadium wearing my Stamps gear minding my own business and not engaging in any banter at all.

I think McMahon is pretty reasonable unless the Riders are in town. Sure there are idiots at all stadiums, but I haven't really noticed it being a problem in Calgary. I would have no problem takings kids to a game there against any other team other than the Riders.

So apparently this lady posted this story first on a local radio station Facebook for free tickets to an upcoming game. Media got a hold of it and she just ran with it.

I'm assuming the Bombers are doing an investigation since the stadium is covered in cameras, trying to find the 'perps'. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they find nothing that matches her story. I bet some drunk stumbled into them and spilled some beer, some crap like that.

I know if my son was accosted like that I'd speak to the authorities and the team. Not angle for free tickets on Facebook. This whole story reeks.

A number of years ago at a rematch, a number of times people told me "you have guts" for wearing red at Commonwealth, as though a) I should expect to be attacked, and b) I would deserve it. All while minding my own business.

I've taken my son to two labour day games and some playoff games but won't take him to a game against the riders. Too violent

Taylor Reed found a new place less than a week after he was released by Stampeders. Reed signed with Stamps' opponent this Saturday, the Ottawa Redblacks.
I am happy for him.

He was signed as a UFA meant he probably was making decent pay for CFL standards. Not going to be able to make too many trades this time of year when you don't want to take salary back.

Likely so, but you have to admit, whenever we hear about these horrible fan experiences, it 9 times out of 10 involves the Riders.

What victim? Victim of what? There's literally zero evidence this happened. Not a single cell phone pic, video, eye witness, nothing. Zilch. The Rider fans who apparently came to hug the child haven't come forward. No witnesses. Not a single one. No video has turned up, despite IGF being covered in video cameras. Don't you think the Bombers would want to help catch these idiots (should they exist that is)?

all we have is someone who has told a pretty fantastic story that brings into question her own judgement (again, leaving a beer soaked abuse magnet on her child) riddled with tall tales of abuse from several groups of fans and even volunteers. Incredible stuff. Then, instead of going to the team directly or authorities, nope, puts her story on a radio station facebook like a contest entry to get tickets to another game.

Wait what? You suffer this bizare, nearly "the purge" style public abuse and you want to go right back?

But no one could possibly lie or embellish a story to get free things right? Right??

You of all people should know that no one would go thru all of this effort for a couple free Bomber tickets.
