I'm thinking what happened when Bruins asked for Nurse and picks instead, Chiarelli probably went "Don, we're going to offer sheet him in July if no deal gets done. We're not giving up Nurse". Sweeney then responds a couple days later by trading him to Calgary for similar picks package, and does a big FU to Chiarelli".
At least, that's how I'm going to imagine how it went down in my head lol.

It is more likely the Bruins weren't going to let the guy who created the cap situation that was forcing them to move Hamilton benefit with another team.

Well, the Oiler picks weren't better than ours.
Our first was one spot higher - which actually matters in the first round. Their second was better than our (1st) second
Our 2nd second was better than the 3rd they offered.
So unless youre saying that an early second round pick and a third is better than moving up 1 spot in the first round plus a late second round pick, it's tough to say their offer was better.

When's the last time a team has sported a top 4 defensemen grouping all coming off 40+ point seasons?

Hamilton certainly should help the Flames possessions stats.

Yup, however one wants to spin it, good to see that on the day when the Oilers draft the next supposed saviour, their new GM gets clipped by past transgressions and another team goes out of the way to not deal with the Oilers.
New management team (hastily assembled by the owner only after finding out he got said saviour) or not, the GM is continuing the dubious tradition of promoting a poor reputation around the league due to shady deal and double talk, carrying on from Lowe upon his shuffling to the shadows of Rectall.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Regarding Arizona's talks earlier today on Dougie Hamilton, told that Coyotes didn't want to part with No. 3 pick but offered big package
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Coyotes offered other top prospects plus picks... Felt it was a really strong offer to Boston on Hamilton

These are the Dougs I know.
Some of them are Dougie.
But most of them are Doug.

I think that Dadswell shot isn't from warmup; all those pucks in the net are from the actual game; too many, too quickly for the refs to fish out.
You forgot a "Doulgas", though.

Pretty much. The Bruins were going to be damned if they lost Hamilton to the GM that is the reason they couldn't retain him in the first place. This no doubt throws a damper on the Oilers weekend of celebration as Hamilton was probably their anticipated big splash in addition to McDavid. Sure they got the wiz kid but their team is still a mess from the back end out.
Honestly I doubt there's any team right now that would do the Oilers any favours as 29 GM's probably were pretty ticked off when they won the lottery. I imagine the Oilers probably have to be better on any offer they make to teams as why send your asset to them if another team is offering as good a package.

OMG, I just got out of bed and still think I'm dreaming. What a steal! It's also amazing Hamilton didn't end up in Edmonton.

More than likely Boston didn't want to do business with a past employee.... Shades of the gilmour trade as an example of such a fiasco....

Exactly, much more eloquent in what I was meaning.

I don't know if it throws a damper on the "celly" from the "bare chested and cut off jeans" crowd up north tonight, but it just goes to show that even with new management in place, they can't get deals done due to prior reputation.
It's exactly (due to Lowe's ego and thinking he's some sort of new-age maverick when it comes to NHL executive) which I've argued over the years is the sole reason the Oilers can't/haven't gotten and UFA's of significance he suckered Pronger in/since Pronger left (and anyone that has signed (Cole, Perron) have left within 2 years), and don't get many players to waive the NTC's to go there.

Dougie Hamilton had 42 points last year as a 21 year old.
TJ Brodie had 41 points as a 24 year old!
Can't believe we have both in our D core now.

I can't either. We now have our Keith and Seabrook with Giordano playing the role of Brian Campbell.
