Definitely bring him up.
The earliest their series could end is next Thursday (and that's with a sweep). That's a maximum of four regular season games he could play in Calgary. So, they'd only burn the first year of his contract if they went at least 6 games in the first round, and he played all of them. If that were the case, I don't think there would be any concern about burning the year.

Help, save, whatever.
|
I saw this is on a Leafs site and didn't know where to put it. I thought it was a pretty fair trade. What would you guys think?
To Calgary:
Phil Kessel, Jake Gardiner, James Reimer
To Toronto:
Sam Bennett, Matt Stajan, Ladislav Smid, 2015 second round pick

The value's not terrible, but the Flames don't have a spot for Reimer, and to be frank I'd rather have Ramo than him if it came down to it. To pry Bennett away would take an overpayment, and this isn't something that really makes me think about it.

No thanks. Reimer has no value to the Flames. Kessel is a -38 this season and has been invisible the second half of the season. Gardiner is pretty good. Leafs are better waiting to see if Kessel rebounds next season and doing a deadline deal, if they want a rebuild. Flames should have no plans of trading Bennett unless its a ridiculous offer.

No chance. Any trade offer that would include Bennett would have to be exceptionally high for the Flames to even consider it at this point. There is still the realistic belief that he will become a franchise, top line centre, so no. I honestly think that the Maple Leafs have virtually nothing of any interest to the Flames that they would be tempted enough to trade Bennett. Nothing.

Only get players from teams that have a winning history. Losers like Kessel and the Leafs are not needed. We saw the same thing when we got Jokinen from Phoenix after he played for the Panthers for the prior decade and Bouwmeester. There usually is a reason why their teams didn't have a lot of team success while they were on it.
I would avoid Oilers, Hurricanes, Leafs, Coyotes, and Sabres unless they are under the age of 24 because they can be taught the right way.

That is a downright awful trade. And lets be honest about what it is: Gardiner for Bennett and A large pile of expensive crap for a smaller pile of cheaper crap.
And we lose both deals.

Good lord we aren't trading Bennett.
Or Monahan.
Or Gaudreau.

Kessel seems to be the type of player that makes every team he is on inexplicably worse. Jake Gardiner is one of the many severely overrated young players in the Maple Leaf organization. James Reimer is a dime a dozen goalie.
Sam Bennett has a good chance of becoming the best forward in his draft. Stajan and Smid might have negative value, but the flames have the space to keep both of them for now. I would rather keep the second round pick since good defense prospects are usually in that range.

There is really nothing the Leafs could realistically offer for Bennett at this point, IMO.
Only thing that might pique Flames interest was if the Leafs 1st (no lottery protection) or Morgan Reilly was part of the package. Leafs won't do that though, so no deal to be had.

I would imagine something like this would have the Flames thinking at least
Kessel (Leafs retain 4 million of the contract)
Rielly
Gardner
For
Bennett
Smid
They might think about that. The Flames would basically be taking on 500K more in salary with Kessel compared with Smid and would be getting 2 young dmen.

You should have stopped yourself right there.
That is a ridiculous, Leaf-homer trade.
"We'll give you a bunch of guys we're looking to trade, and you give us one of the top 5 prospects in hockey - oh, and you should throw in a 2nd"
