I suspect that any team that trades for him not named Canucks will be dealing with a Pain in the arse. Calgary trading for him is ludicrous.

Wrong. It morphed into a "what is Kane worth in a trade" thread. Very few of the trade valuations specifically reference the Flames.

Or to put it another way, can you name five NHL cities that have more in common with Winnipeg than Calgary does? I'll give you Edmonton. And Ottawa. And, uh... St. Paul? Okay, that's three...

Calgary isn't a small market and has more corporate opportunities than 25 or so of the other NHL markets, even with the price of oil at $50/barrel.

Calgary is a small market team.

It is not a small revenue team.

But there is a difference.

Makes a lot of sense. Sabres help their tank and get a great asset moving forward. Kane can drive to Toronto to party. Jets get rid of locker room jerk and get some help.

Finish the deal Chevy.

Why now and not summer, Sabres? Oh, right - better for you to get worse than better for the draft. Pathetic.

Anyway: Buffalo is Winnipeg south. Anyone think Kane's attitude is going to turn around there? Yeah, right.

Kane to Buffalo will happen. It makes too much sense for it not to happen.

Trade between these 2 makes beautiful sense, it's almost poetic.

Sabres suck even more for this season in potentially offloading their best D, but by next season they'll (theoretically) be insanely better.

What would the value be on Kane for Myers? Would Winnipeg need to add more, considering some are saying a ROR for Myers straight-up trade would be about equal?

Kane for Myers straight up seems fair for both. Winnipeg would probably want to expand it as they have too many dmen and need another forward with Kane gone. Maybe Winnipeg will be the destination for Stewart or Stafford?

The whole size of market issue is a red herring. In media and pure population terms, all Canadian markets, with the exception of Toronto, are small markets. When culture is added to the equation the Canadian cities are the biggest markets in the league. Canadians love and watch hockey. An estimated 80 percent of Canadians watch hockey. According to Gallup only 31 percent of Americans say the same. Those stats say a lot about the potential market size, especially in the southern regions which are considered non-traditional markets for the game. The sport is slowly growing, but it isn't even close to competing with any of the Canadian markets.

One of their late first round picks, Joel Armia, and Stafford or Stewart is about as good as it gets for the Jets. They add a first in a deep draft, get a player that helps them now, and a prospect who is close.

Buffalo gets closer to securing the top 2 pick they need and get a forward who will play on their top line next year when they hope to be more competitive. Sabres fans can already get excited about one of McEichel and Kane on their roster in October

I think if it were Kane for Myers then Winnipeg would want to expand as they're losing a winger for another D, where Byfuglien will be playing full-time from next year.

to BUF

Kane and Stuart/Harrison/Clitty

to WPG

Myers and Stewart

If Jets can get that offer right now they should take it. I don't think they can get much better in the off season. Deal helps them in the future and a player like Stafford could put them over the hump on making playoffs this year.

What does that have to do with the social life of a professional athlete? Because that's what we're talking about here. It's safe to say that if Kane (and other players) don't want to play in Winnipeg, it's because they'd prefer to play somewhere bigger, warmer, and more cosmopolitan. Calgary is marginally better than Winnipeg in those respects, but it's no New York, Chicago, LA, or Miami. Corporate opportunities and standards of living for working joes are irrelevant.

Better to say small city rather than small market then.
