I hate it when they say the English have 'nothing to lose'. Everything is on the line, some of these English players may never play in a World Cup semifinal again.

Steph Houghton should be ashamed of herself for arguably the worst dive of the tournament but can you blame her? With referees so miserably incompetent you can't fault her for taking advantage. Screw sportsmanship when you have a chance to take your team to a World Cup Final.

Horrible, one of the selling points of women's soccer is the lack of diving relative to the men's game.

Perhaps, but I think she was obstructed first though. There was a tug.

Oh, that's just a horrible way to lose a semi-final.

Holy eff. Own goal in the last minute of stoppage time in the 2nd half. Japan beats England 2-1. USA vs Japan in the final.

Feel bad for Bassett, she is crying uncontrollably after the game.

It is. Was a great ball into the box though. Put the defense under pressure.

I feel so bad for that girl. Man, that's brutal. She'll live with that forever.

Its too bad cause she made a great play. Just really unfortunate where the ball landed.

BBC studio crew on the verge of tears trying to get through their post-game. One of them in tears now. Don't remember the last time I've seen something like this.

At least the US will have a tougher time in the finals with Japan being the opponent.

That means it matters. Its reminds us of us after losing in 2012

What makes it worse is that England played a great game, especially in the 2nd half. Had a realistic shot at winning this one.

I think Germany handily wins for bronze, maybe 2-0 or 3-0. I have no clue on the final. Won't be betting on it. USA needs to lineup exactly as they did against Germany in that conservative 4-4-2, let Rapinoe and Heath work some magic on the counter, and hope Alex Morgan finds her legs or else they will lose.

What a game for a first "big event" soccer match for me to see live.

We were sitting 17 rows up in the corner of the own goal.

Crazy.

That has to be one of the worst ways to lose a game ever. Feel absolutely awful for her
