I've heard of cases where people have poisoned ISIS fighters, but I'm surprised someone hasn't tried mass-releasing some type of airborne virus amongst the ISIS ranks. Maybe not a lethal virus, but one where ISIS' fighters would be severely weakened and their capacity to mount any offense would be stunted.
I suppose there would be collateral damage with citizens too; I just wonder if that's ever gone through the minds of coalition members, or even resistance fighting groups.
Dude, about 6 months ago my Facebook feed was littered with this suggestion "hey guys, can't we solve ISIS with ebola??? PROBLEM SOLVED!!1!!"
Got an update from security forces here today. Apparently 600 Canadian ground forces in country now, with the first official interaction from Coalition troops coming from Canadian snipers killing several ISIS troops.

Chemical and biological warfare is a war crime. I know you aren't suggesting that any organized Western forces undertake something like this but it's still frowned upon and the lingering effects can be devastating to all sides and civilian populations as well. Anybody participating in this would lose support from local populations and other nations.
Biological warfare has become a fictitious war fighting tool by most professional military thinkers because of its uncontrollable nature, its difficulty in deployment and the fact that there are bigger odds of it harming your own military just as much as it harms your own military or civilian base.
Even Chemical warfare has become something that's not likely to be used because of the difficulty in deployment, the persistence of modern chemical weapons and the need to decontaminate areas after use. And the fact that you need highly trained soldiers to fight and survive in a chemical environment. On top of that no soldier enjoys fighting in a NBC suit.
As well under most international law conventions a attack by chemical or biological weapons are treated the same as an attack by nuclear weapons.
In fact the American's defined result to a chemical weapon attack on their military or civilian base or a chemical weapon on a nato ally is more then likely to respond with a nuclear retaliation.

How are your work camps security guys reacting to Canadians being on the ground? or their attitude to the Canadian troops overall?
I can't say if they react any differently, they were quite friendly before this ISIS thing cropped up. Canadians are almost universally well liked here. Same with Americans (now that Obama is dropping bombs on their enemies).
Boris Johnston simply relaying some MI5 profiling. Smart move politically as it shows a sense of fearlessness and strategically as it dumps a level of shame/inadequacy on the potential volunteers where they are viewed as losers.

Boris Johnson has described men who go to fight with Islamic State as "literally wankers” who watch porn because they can’t meet women.
Citing a report from MI5 on the profile of jihadis, the mayor of London said: “If you look at all the psychological profiling about bombers, they typically will look at porn. They are literally wankers. Severe onanists.
Johnson described British jihadis as “tortured” and “very badly adjusted in their relations with women”, something he said was a symptom of “their feeling of being a failure and that the world is against them”.
“They are not making it with girls and so they turn to other forms of spiritual comfort – which of course is no comfort.”
He continued: “They are just young men in desperate need of self-esteem who do not have a particular mission in life, who feel that they are losers and this thing makes them feel strong – like winners.”
War of attrition. Sucks that so many innocent people are dying when the US could just unleash hell and drive ISIS back into Syria, but you want the Kurds, Iraqis and even Iranians involved. They need to work together for a change.
Seems to be working well. Not sure why people are afraid to give the Kurds recognition. They deserve their own country.

Turkey and Iran don't want to give up territory. When things settle down Iraq may be forced to.
When Islamic State group militants invaded the Central Library of Mosul earlier this month, they were on a mission to destroy a familiar enemy: other people’s ideas. Residents say the extremists smashed the locks that had protected the biggest repository of learning in the northern Iraq town, and loaded around 2,000 books — including children’s stories, poetry, philosophy and tomes on sports, health, culture and science — into six pickup trucks. They left only Islamic texts.
The rest?
“These books promote infidelity and call for disobeying Allah. So they will be burned,” a bearded militant in traditional Afghani two-piece clothing told residents, according to one man living nearby who spoke to The Associated Press. The man, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he feared retaliation, said the Islamic State group official made his impromptu address as others stuffed books into empty flour bags.
Since the Islamic State group seized a third of Iraq and neighbouring Syria, they have sought to purge society of everything that doesn’t conform to their violent interpretation of Islam. They already have destroyed many archaeological relics, deeming them pagan, and even Islamic sites considered idolatrous. Increasingly books are in the firing line.
I wonder what is being done with museum items and older manuscripts. What is now Iraq must be filled with that stuff. I'm sure a lot of it has already been lost in recent wars, but there must be a fair bit of stuff left.

From the same article.

Mosul, the biggest city in the Islamic State group’s self-declared caliphate, boasts a relatively educated, diverse population that seeks to preserve its heritage sites and libraries. In the chaos that followed the U.S.-led invasion of 2003 that toppled Saddam Hussein, residents near the Central Library hid some of its centuries-old manuscripts in their own homes to prevent their theft or destruction by looters.
But this time, the Islamic State group has made the penalty for such actions death. Presumed destroyed are the Central Library’s collection of Iraqi newspapers dating to the early 20th century, maps and books from the Ottoman Empire and book collections contributed by around 100 of Mosul’s establishment families.
Days after the Central Library’s ransacking, militants broke into University of Mosul’s library. They made a bonfire out of hundreds of books on science and culture, destroying them in front of students.
Now reports coming out the prisoners Jordan planned to swap for him will be executed this evening. No playing around.
Media in Jordan is also reporting the pilot was actually killed back on January 3 and the video is a month old.
