Anybody know the scoop on that 5th rounder... why the heck did he get so much money - have never heard or read about him as being a guy who fell due to sign ability concerns.
Good to see them sign the 2nd, sounds like he was a good pickup. Hopefully he wasn't too far over slot and they can still lock down the two first rounders, their bonus pool was a little lower this year to start with.
Juan Fransisco and Anthony Gose have turned back into Juan Fransisco and Anthony Gose. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Colby will hopefully be back soon and maybe the Jays can pick up a rental 2B on the cheap once some teams give up the ghost on post-season play.
Pillar was sent back to AAA today. Jays won't face a lefty for a while so that makes some sense but when Colby comes back it makes more sense to swap that around and option Gose to have Pillar as the 4th OF. Need another RH bat off the bench.
Roster tinkering forthcoming I would imagine. Optimally I would probably go...
Colby Back -> Gose goes down -> Mastroianni/Pillar up
Fransisco down -> Lawrie plays 3rd -> Kawasaki up -> Tolleson/Kawasaki Platoon at 2B
It's not ideal (I mean no one should think a Tolleson/Kawasaki platoon is ideal for everyday play) but I think the above would on balance be the best position player active roster.
With a second consecutive lose, Jays fall to 1st place in the AL East and fall to a full 5 games ahead of the 2nd place team.
