Weisbrod's message was very clear with this pick, Flames scouts watched him a tonne, Weisbrod made the trip,saw his skill and then did his research on the intangibles (family,charactor..etc). I heard he even called his bantam coach in hamilton.

Make no mistake, they wanted this kid bigtime, I wouldn't be shocked if he was 4-5th on their list but knowing the other guys wouldn't fall that far he was #1.

A few reasons. Physically speaking he is a late bloomer, he just got his height and is still getting used to it. Playing in Dubuque is great for his development, he will get more games and more minutes than he will as a freshman in the NCAA, it also gives him a year to withdraw his commitment and change schools if he so chooses like Gaudreau did.

Also I am re-quoting this because I think some missed it with the questions of the "Beantown Tournament", Beantown, not Beanpot, same town different ages

Just for the record, Jankowski is Polish - and "w" is pronounced as "v" in Polish - so before everyone will start calling him Jan-Cow-ski.....its really pronounced Yan-Kov-Ski

And Isn't the Gretzky name from Belarus?

His family is from Grodno, which is right on the Poland border and has changed countries a few times. I think it was even Lithuanian for a while. For a long time it was part of Poland, then the Russian empire. Now it is Belarus. When the Gretzky family emmigrated, there were probably a lot of Poles still living there.

It's a high risk high reward pick. Anything 15+ has a possibility of missing anyway (even higher really) so I can't be mad till we get more info. We'll see how he develops.

People laughing over this pick are doing so because to them the THN draft preview is gospel - and when teams deviate from it they must be insane.

Anyone that bothers to research the player and the interest in him as the season progresses knows that it wasn't much of a reach.

Had the Flames chosen another player, I bet Jankowski would not have been available for their 2nd round pick...I don't see it much of a stretch at all...even TSN had him as a high 2nd rounder, I think (for those following that list as the gospel).

I agree with all the comments regarding the Flames list being the only one that matters.

But of all the ones that people worry about when questioning the Jankowski pick, the TSN one is the most laughable. Are we to believe that Mckenzie runs around the continent scouting 2+ rounds of draftable players? Dreger is traveling to North Dakota and Minnesota to check out potential 3rd rounders?

As usual, draft day has made for great reading.
