It seems the Coyotes are in the playoffs. If they are also ran what do you call the Flames ? Nobody knows if Winnipeg and their billionaire owner will be living on any financial edge.

For reasons that elude me St Louis is about the most popular city in N America for athletes, both active and retired, it is small, flat and in the middle of no where by US standards.

The coyotes play in Phoenix. They are the Phoenix Coyotes. They do not play in Winnipeg.

If a team ends up in the Peg, what are the chances they could draw Selanne back in for a year! I hear he only negotiates his contracts one year at a time. Would he leave the warm confines of Anaheim? Maybe Carlyle would come back too!

Same thing almost happened with the Flames and Oilers... crap all of the Canadian teams with the exception of Toronto were having a really tough time.
Flames sold allot of their stars in the early 90's ever wonder why?
As for Winnipeg remember the NHL has around 45-50% of the players from Canada... Yes there is a crap load of them from Man. or Sask... etc.
I am sure some players would rather live in a smaller City versus New York
If Winnipeg gets a team they will have no problem attracting players...

It comes up every now and then on NFL and hockey pre games etc, I doubt there are comprehensive stats but apparently it is an extremely popular retirement destination.

I find that almost completely impossible to believe. the most dangerous city in America is a popular retirement destination for professional athletes?

If that were the case, Winnipeg would be in the top 5 desirable places to play in.

What is that in Celsius? 40?
That's way too hot for comfort. I feel sorry for the Construction workers in Arizona.

I found it just as unbelievable but I heard the same comments from both hockey and NFL pre game shows over the last few years.

Very quiet in Phoenix the last week or two. Something must be up. Either:
1) Hulsizer is working out an acceptable plan with Goldwater; or
2) A move will be announced once the Coyotes are eliminated.

From a PR point of view if they had anything positive to say they would say it, heading into the playoffs, generating a positive buzz with which to sell tickets etc.
Not the only consideration though, granted.

Video - Winnipeg Sun interviews Coyotes fans:
Coyotes fans: Hands off our team!
Winnipeg, Glendale in emotional tug of war over Coyotes
http://www.winnipegsun.com/sports/ho.../17899471.html
Attending a pair of recent games at Jobing.com Arena erased a couple of myths for me. One, that the building is always half-empty. And two, that nobody really cares.
Although announced crowds of 12,000-plus (on a Tuesday) and 15,000-plus (Friday) were slightly inflated, the place had atmosphere. These are fans who’ve moved to Arizona from all over North America. They know when to cheer, and boo the ref as well as anybody.
