Change in head scouting might not hurt either. Button has been here for quite a while.

Janko was a self inflicted wound. The Klimchuk/Poirier draft - look at that draft. Only one or two decent players in that vicinity: Burakovsky and Theodore.
Monahan at 6oa was good value no matter how you slice it. Only one name behind him is even close to as good and he's a 2C anyway.

Because Domi hasn’t really lived up to expectations with the salary he’s making. Bennett could be Roslovic 2.0. I think he’d do well under Torts. Highly unlikely but I don’t think any of us expected to see what Roslovic is currently doing in a Jackets uni.

Just a bad string of luck with no McDavid or Matthews at the end like the other Black cats. Its unfortunate.

Monahan is the third-highest scoring player in his draft class. He is the furthest thing from a "bust."

Since Bennett was selected in 2014 the Flames have had four first-round picks in the last six drafts, and only two between 2015–18. Both of those picks are NHL players today. But in addition, this scouting staff has also managed to graduate players from the second round (x2), the third, fourth, and six rounds since Gaudreau was drafted in fourth round in 2011.
I don't understand why anyone would complain about the Flames's amateur scouting. It seems like a real strength in this organisation.

Monahan is a high-end goal scorer. Monahan was not a bad pick at all. This is said by someone who has a less than stellar opinion of Monahan. Some people are going a bit too far with this self-loathing.

If Bennett was waived, he almost certainly gets claimed, yes?
We know nearly everyone who may be in the lineup instead of him would go unclaimed...though maybe someone would take a flyer at Leivo or Nordstrom.

Who is complaining about amateur scouting? I'm lamenting our luck. We didnt get any generational talents like the ugly twins TO and EDM. It doesn't seem very good over the last 30 years. Would you agree? Im not placing blame on scouts.

Monahan is not a bust at all. I bet he looks pretty good historically against other 6th overall picks. It is why tanking is so dangerous, you'll likely end up with more busts than amazing talents. The oilers really have McDavid as their only amazing first overall. Draisaitl was good luck as well.

Yes he is a good 2C. We just needed a 1C out of him Jankowski or, Bennett and it didnt happen. Its unfortunate.

Who me? Am I just poor at English? Or do people just take their own narrative and run with it. Who is blaming the scouts here ?

Monahan was the best pick at that spot. Definitely not a miss.
Bennett was the consensus pick at that spot...meaning anyone you're replacing him with would have chosen Bennett as well.
And Jankowski is all Feaster and his 2ic. Can't remember his name.
So what swings and misses are you actually referring to?

Yeah, the other ripple effect is that Hamilton trade, could have ended up with Barzal. ROR is the big miss in my opinion. He went cheap.
