Reinhart is good for a lot more than 40 points.
45% of Ristolainen's production comes off the PP. The only way he'd get anywhere close to 40 points in Calgary is if he took over PP1, which is unlikely.
He is very average offensively 5v5, if not even slightly below average.

Reinhart had 65 points last season and was on pace for 59 point this season.
Unlike Ristolainen who relies on the PP but is a detriment 5v5, only 30% of Reinhart's production comes off the PP while still being a driving force 5v5.

I think part of Risto's problem is who he plays with. This past season about 70% of his ES time was paired with McCabe or Montour, the season prior around 70% of his ES time was split between McCabe, Scandella and Pilut. In 17-18 over 80% was with Scandella and Beaulieu.
I think you put him on a better team that has more defensive depth and I think he looks more like the defensemen we all thought he was becoming a few years ago. I also don't think he's ever really had that vet to teach him things either.

All I have to say about Rasmus Ristolainen is that there's really no point in trading for him when Cody Ceci is roughly as good and is available for free.

Reinhart has 1 season with more than 50 points and has been playing with Eichel, not sure how that is "good for a lot more than 40 points"
Why would Risto not get a chance on PP1? We put Gus there almost immediately.
Comparing ES production of a foward playing on the first line with Eichel and a middle pairing defenseman doesn't make any sense. Of course the forward has more points

Ooof, I dont want fancy stats thrown back at me here but I'd way rather Ristolainen than Ceci. Like a whole lot more. Ceci would be cheaper and free to acquire, but if Risto came over in a johnny trade that netted the Flames a hefty ransom, id much rather that. And if we are talking FA RHD, I'd take Schultz a thousand time over Ceci.

Is 50 points really more impressive than 40-44 by a defenseman though? That's my point.
And I will say it again, I don't want to trade for either of them.

I've never heard of his situation in those terms. Puts further perspective on him for sure.

I'd take Barrie over all 3 of them.

Ceci doesn't get the PP usage that Risto does but they both get vastly overplayed at even strength and aren't very good in a top-four role.
Ceci, however, doesn't have a terrible contract (anymore) and has no acquisition cost. As a #6 I would be open to trying him. Schultz too.
From an asset perspective, Risto has such little value at this point that I would be perfectly content with letting him be someone else's problem. (Of course it's also decently likely that he'd be a good mentor for Valimaki in the room). Still, Buffalo has unsuccessfully been trying to trade him for quite some time.

I would have to disagree-Ceci isn't nearly as big or as physical, and can't put up the offense that Risto does. He's probably better in his own zone though.

Just for clarity, the talk of Risto started with the suggestion of 8+Reinhart for Gaudreau and I said I would prefer Risto to Reinhart, even though I don't really want either Reinhart or Risto. Frankly if we aren't getting Cozens and #8, Buffalo doesn't really interest me as a trade partner.

Well that depends on the rest of the budget for the Flames. Barrie is going to be one of the top 5 most sought after FA defense targets after Pietrangelo. Risto at 5.5 will be okay as he is young enough, Schultz and Ceci likely come in closer to 2m than 3m per year in my estimation.

I'm more of a Sami Vatanen type myself, but depending the the term and dollars, I'm okay with more than a few RHD out there.

Risto gets PP1 deployment that Ceci has never enjoyed. I think Ceci is probably good for 20ish points in a normal year while Risto, used properly, would be a 30-point guy.
Ceci is reasonably physical.

I prefer Barrie to Vatanen only because of the PP presence, but I wouldn't be upset with Vatanen instead.

Vatanen might be a more realistic get. I'm assuming 15+ teams will be after Pietrangelo, maybe a few less for Barrie, Krug etc...

IMO, Schultz makes Ceci and Risto look like Lidstrom in the D zone. Exaggerating, of course, but.....

I think there is a good chance there could be mutual interest there. Barrie is a western Canadian kid and could see a nice spot on the top PP unit and second pair here in Calgary. Flames could likely offer a 5x5 deal and I am not sure there are a ton of teams that will go 5+ years with him? I could be wrong though.
