Look at the returns from last years TDL for similar players. My comparables (insert speculation disclaimer here) would be Carlo, Jones and Walman. In my view, Conroy needs to meet or exceed the value that those players returned last year, anything less is a strike against his capability as a GM. Anything that exceeds Carlo’s return would prove his aptitude. That’s how I’ll be judging him.
|
Well Carlo has two years left on his contract. He got a 1st and a former 2nd round pick and a 4th. Suspect Conroy will get something similar.
For Jones the Panthers got 5 more years under contract at a 7 million dollar a year cap hit. He was worth a first and a 24 year old former first who has had a best middling results at the NHL level.
Suspect the term for both players could have played a role but I think the Flames will get the first and a prospect portion for Rasmus.

I hope you’re right, I don’t believe he will get that level of value at this point.

I don't honestly have a problem with anyone.
I don't get personal.
You were referring to a group of posters that have to push back. Since I was the first to question the guy that started the discussion I assumed I was part of that group.
You're not the most negative guy here at all.

Fan960 has already been doing the ‘it will be a distraction because the media will talk about it’ for a couple of weeks.
It’s kinda hilarious in that sense. People in the media talking about how the media can’t stop talking about it. Guy in hot dog costume and all that…

I'm not sure I would refer to Knight "at best, middling results".
He's at 2.82 with a .904 save %. By comparison, Wolf is at 2.73 and .906.
Not suggesting Knight is in Wolf's league, but he's got a high pedigree and his results to date have been fairly good and certainly encouraging to date. He's had some personal issues to be sure, but they may be behind him.

IDK if those trades really set the market. Asset values, especially picks, change value through time. Or, maybe teams aren’t as interested in him as we expect. Or, maybe CC isn’t as good as we think he is.
I thought you were calling someone out for speculating, that why I pointed it out. Of course speculation and assumptions are OK. What else have we got?
I’m not happy with how this Ras business has been handled at the superficial level based on what is public. It sucks that a guy we drafted and developed, from very raw prospect, may enter the season answering questions about this at every scrum during the season. He’s our guy and if he leaves it should be done firmly, expeditiously and with class. All our guys get reduced to commodities like cattle at auction?

Last years draft was considered average to below average. A pick in that draft is arguably worth less than a pick in this draft.
That has to be factored in as well. This draft is considered much deeper

While i think that absolutely a considerable difference between a 20 pick this year than last i also believe the overall return would be much higher.
Makes an interesting discussion what if Andersson had been traded and we had a third pick?
Reschny, Potter seemed determined if they were anywhere outside top ten but who would the flames have picked if they had another Andersson first last draft?

Factor in that it was a trade within the same division and there is usually a premium for those.

Would the media have time to talk about Andersson when McDiver still not re-resign?

Ahh I see your point, so to clarify I wasn’t trying to bash Bingo’s POV. He had said “I think we can assume he feels the market will improve or he would have dealt him already” which came across as a get out of jail free card for the current scenario we are in. It’s fine to have an assumption but that one was fairly easy to disagree with.

If Bourque and a 2nd was on the table I'm pretty sure the trade would have already happened. It's probably not on the table because a player who is already establishing himself is worth more than a late 1st which has way more uncertainty and a much further time horizon. I'm sure almost any team in the league would swap a late 1st for Bourque.

I don’t know
He hasn’t established himself as a guy that can produce in the NHL yet
Not well enough
It really would come down to how each team views him but I’m not sure every team would take him over a late first

Bourque has roughly the same PPG as Gage Goncalves. Not sure I would take Goncalves over a first round pick.

Maybe. He’s heavily overvalued by a few here so you’re probably not alone in thinking that, but he was taken 30th overall and is roughly the 30th best player from his draft year. This is not a particularly high bar for a late 1st to reach.
Philip Tomasino, who was drafted one year earlier 24th overall (is just 5 months older) and had 71 points in 159 games (0.45 P/GP vs Bourque’s 0.34 P/GP) at the time he was traded, was swapped for a 4th round pick.
So, I’m not sure any team would swap a late first for him when you can get better players for less and draft better players with that pick.

You might draft a better player, you also might draft a complete bust. 77 pts in 71 games in the AHL seems like someone worth taking a gamble on for a 30th overall pick. Definitely a higher ceiling than Tomasino. And he's ready now, not 4 years from now.

I think Bourque is being seriously overrated.
Dillon Dube in his 22 year old season - 0.43 PPG, 13:38 TOI/GP
Mavrik Bourque in his 22/23 year old season - 0.34 PPG, 12:41 TOI/GP
They are pretty much exactly the same height and weight.
I just don't see Bourque having anywhere close to 1st round value at this time. If the Stars thought he had the value that some fans around here think he has, they would have given him more than an 1 year $950k deal.

Jeremy Tingly of nhltraderumors speculates that the Andersson trade is down to 4 teams:
1) Carolina Hurricanes: He claims that trade discussions went pretty deep in trade conversations this summer. They have a nice prospect base, including D Noel Fransen, D Scott Morrow, D Simon Forsmark, D Dominik Badinka, D Kurban Limatov, C Ivan Ryabkin, RW Nikita Artamonov (!), LW Oskar Vuollet, LW Alexander Perevalov, RW Justin Poirier, RW Felix Unger-Sorum, D Aleksei Heimosalmi, and C Bradly Nadeau.
2) Detroit: Dylan Larkin was vocal in his disappointment that Yzerman sat on his hands at the trade deadline, so Tingly speculates that they have been active this summer- and they brought in Gibson in net. Picking up Andersson would mean that Justin Holl wouldn't be as depended on for important minutes. Detroit would be excellent trade partners IMO, as they have young roster players like C Marco Kasper, and D Simon Edvinsson (who they probably wouldn't part with), along with prospects like C Nate Danielson (!), D Axel Sandin-Pellikka (!), RW Michael Brandsegg-Nygard (!), D William Wallinder, C Max Plante, RW Eddie Genborg, C Noah Dower-Nilsson, C Michal Svrcek, D Nikita Tyurin, RW Jesse Kiiskinen (!), D Shai Buium (!), and LW/C Carter Bear (!).
3) New Jersey: Tingly wonders if Dougie Hamilton would return to Calgary, and states that the Devils want to shake things up- with Dawson Mercer still being Calgary's #1 target. There's also D Simon Nemec, D Seamus Casey, D Anton Silayev (no way they trade him), C Conrad Fondrk, RW Kasper Pikkarainen, RW Lenni Hameenaho (!), C Gustav Hillstrom, and RW Ben Kevan.
4) Toronto: Tingly says that Andersson would be a good replacement for Morgan Reilly, with his future in TO being a hot topic this off-season. Problem is, I don't think they have much to offer that we would want, as I doubt they would trade Easton Cowan. There's RW William Belle, C Tinus Luc Koblar, D William Villeneuve, D Noah Chadwick, D Ben Danford, and C Tyler Hopkins (!).
Anyway, something to chew on in this boring off-season...
