Speaking of Zegras, I came across a bizarre little quirk today while looking into Mason McTavish's underlyings: The Ducks have utilized just three forward lines throughout this season that have spent at least 34 minutes together and have an xGF% at 50% or better... two of them feature Zegras. Why 34 minutes? Because that's where the slider on moneypuck happened to be after I slid it down to see more line combinations.
Another thing I noticed: the Ducks really don't seem to keep forward combinations together very much.

Nothing is in the red zone but we are seeing the ball move on a lot of these available player now that Rantanen has moved.
Teams are calling on Andersson - But given the Flames current situation outside of a grandslam offer they will wait till the summer. The question will always remain the number. Flames are willing to go long term at lower AAV. Higher AAV flames don't want to buy all 8 years.
Flames are willing to operate at Max CAP when the new arena opens up, until then there is a bit of a lower internal cap. Doesn't mean Conroy CAN'T go big game hunt. Just age is a factor.
|
This I think is going to be the thing that helps a Canadian team win a cup. Elliott mentioned that a number of teams will be looking at having that internal cap as the cap balloons over the next few years. Those that are able to spend wisely and not kill themselves on July 1st (looking at you Treliving) will put themselves in a great position to win. Say what you will about Edwards, he let's GMs spend to the cap.

I kinda feel bad for Rutherford about his teams' situation. Last year they looked like they came from nowhere and were on the right track. Miller just seems like an idiot, yet I don't think there's been one media figure to call out his antics and put that in perspective in this whole thing. I could be wrong but Petterson doesn't seem like "the type" to be getting into spats. Now both seem to be on their way out. Vancouver may end up rebuilding as well which isn't great when that same team is in our division in years were there may be a race to the bottom.

Sounds like a smart, practical approach by Conroy when it comes to contracts. I do think it could end up leading to Andersson moving on as I think it will take max term and market dollars to get him to sign IMO. That’s not a knock on him. Just the nature of a player approaching free agency that will have a lot of interested teams in likely a rising cap. Who knows though.

Bro, do you even Flames?
They will NEVER participate in a race to the bottom.

Craig continues to be active, but more so looking for that U25 RHS center with a long term outlook on the team. I’ve been told he’s got the green light to swing for the fences, they’re willing to pay the price $$ wise but won’t mortgage the future to do so.
Cozens remains high on the list, but Calgary doesn’t appear to have the right pieces willing to go there. One name to keep an eye on is Rossi, Calgary brass are very high on his compete and drive, but again at what price?

Man Rossi has always been a favourite of mine. He's small but a dawg. Would be fine paying for a guy with his ceiling given what he's shown the last two years in the show.

Yeah I like Rossi too
Not sure why Minny would trade him except perhaps he’s not a bill Guérin type

I still think Vancouver should build around Hughes and treat him as the key cog.
Pettersen for Thompson and Bowen.
The also trade Miller in a hockey trade.
Gives they a good retool.

Why does the handedness even matter so much. Right or left shot let’s get some centers drafted and into the system.

Ask the Flames. Actually, if you were listening to Conroy or Huska on the topic they laid it out very plainly. They need a strong side faceoff option.
Even if they land a LHC like Rossi it's not going to prevent them from addressing the issue.

I don't think that Peterson gets you Thompson. At best, very close.

Need to get wingers to take draws like Iggy did. Plenty of teams go 4 left shots down the middle. Obviously you prefer if you have mix it up but it feels like Treliving and his obsession with Lefty Righty pairs that had us make one of the worst trade in franchise history.

Is Solovyov not a big LH shutdown defenseman? He's the same age as Bahl too. I'd like to see him called up and given a look.

I think if it's a player at Cozens level (trending down with an uncertain ceiling) then ensuring they're RHS is higher on the priority list. If a player of Rossi's caliber is available, trending up, 23 years and 44 points in 55 games as a 2nd line C where 34 of those are 5v5 points, fantastic posession metrics...LHS probably matters a lot less.
Would love to see the Flames find a way to snap up Rossi. He has 1st line potential as a PPG Center imo

Solovyov, Grushnikov and Kuznetsov, there's plenty of options.
