What compensation would we reasonably expect from Lou if we were to trade Kadri + Rooney + Kuznetsov for Pageau + Lee.

Keeping in mind Kadri was offered more money and same term by Lou and he is miles better than Pageau and Lee.

Lee has 2 years left at 7MM per and Pageau has 5MM per for 2 years. I’d expect that we can flip them at the 2026 deadline for a 2nd or 3rd depending on performance.

Would we get 2 unprotected future 1sts?

I've been under a rock the last couple weeks. Any fresh rumors?

Only thing I’ve seen is Sec saying that we are shopping for a bad contract after the Monday arena ground breaking. I may have interpreted it wrong though.

Well. Necas and Kotka in package is enticing enough for me. Sure would like some more younger center options.

Necas seems too expensive for us and I don’t believe he is a foundational player. I’d rather pass.

I have reliable intel that Makar is going to sign with the Banff Fighting Squirrels, just to spite us.

That bastard….

Next time I see him at the mall, I’m giving him a piece of my mind!

Not sure if that is a miracle. They need some things to go their way but if thry can get some picks in the top 3 and their current prospect base moves in the right direction fighting for playoffs in 4 seasons from now would not be a miracle in my opinion. Far from a lock but not out of the realm of possibility

No it’s not out of the realm of possibility but in that instance, a lot of things need to break our way.
I don’t think we are even done tearing this thing down yet, so playoffs in 3 years is extremely optimistic to me

Prospects tend to take a while to develop, so unless we hit the lottery jackpot, you can assume that only 1/3 are likely to develop and very few will actually hit their ceiling. That's just the odds.

So yes, we might be in playoff contention in 4 years, or still bottom 10.

Our prospect base has certainly improved, but the recent ranking had us with 3 in the top 100, which is average.

A lot will depend on whether Wolf becomes a viable goalie. That would make a huge difference.

Apparently Columbus would have given up the 4th overall if Necas would have signed. I'd take a big pass on Necas at anywhere near that cost.

Oettinger was 22 and almost stole a series
Heiskanen was also 22 and had 35 points. The following season he had 70+

Heck, those guys are still not even in their mid 20s and Dallas has been a consistent contender.

I think there is plenty of reason to think core players in their early twenties can start to make significant impact. Look at when Chicago won their cups and LA.. and even Pittsburgh early on. How old were all those core players when their teams became serious contenders..
Makes it even more hilarious that Edmonton keeps getting older, and their top players are pushing 30.

I dunno, I think we're effectively done tearing it down... I mean we'll move more guys to be sure but other then Andersson (FTR I want Backlund to retire a Flame so I'm not including him here) the guys we'll be moving are mid<->low value transitory pieces.

Not to put to much pressure on him but I think the length of the rebuild is basically going to be dictated by the development of Dustin Wolf.

Even the tear down was never an intentional tear down.

Its worked out great but they moved guys that wanted out.

I'm sure they'll do the same moving forward with guys like coleman, rasmus and kadri.

It is 4 full seasons until they would need to make the playoffs in the 27/28 season. I think the key is tanking for high picks the next 2 years and in year 3 be pushing forward to hopefully make it in season 4. I think even a playoff miss where they finish 5pts out of the WC spot would be fine they just will not want to be losing and definitely in a move forward spot by the time the new building opens and we pay significantly more for tickets and concessions.

While Makar could be a pipe dream it is also within reason as he lives here in the offseason and when his contract is up the Flames should be a team on the upswing when the Avs could be that aging team on the downside

Agreed, to be pushing for a playoff spot in 5 years you have to consider that a success especially if we all expect to suck for 2 years.
I just think 3 years is pretty optimistic.
