True, but i don't think all 12 of our forwards need to be complete defensive players lol. I think he can easily be salvaged with his offensive abilities, and can learn the defensive side of the game under Sutter as he's still relatively young. With Lindholm having solid defensive capabilities as our #1C, I think Strome could thrive being the more offensive one as the #2C.

I'd pay a third for adding Chara at the deadline.

Interesting that Palmieri is a healthy scratch tonight. Lost his game playing for the Isle, but was great for Jersey. Three more years at $5M. Right handed right wing. Another guy who would look good on the third line, but is potentially much cheaper to acquire.
Can he get his game back, or does New York retain a $1M for a little extra value?
Edit : when Chara and Greene retire at the end of the season, they only have Bolduc playing behind Pelech on the left side. Valimaki for $2M retained might be something that the Isle would look at.

Palmieri missed games on Feb 9 and 11 and was on IR for most of Jan...I presume he's a little banged up or something...and he has a full NTC.

I just looked and he was on a paternity leave, but could have played tonight. If he used his NTC to block a trade, I would think that it would be stability for his family and not a hockey reason to not come. Brutal stats this year and last though. I'm not sure if he is enjoying his time there.

Eric Engels on Canadiens:
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/video/c...rade-deadline/
Chiarot will definitely return a 1st round pick
at least 12 teams are interested in him
Told Chiarot won't be out for much longer than a week
Canadiens like and are willing to hold on to Toffoli - it won't be a fire sale or a trade just made for the sake of making it
Everyone is coming back to Calgary because of the Sutter connection, former Canuck and King
He is really close to Lucic
Thinks Treliving is very interested in the player
Dallas and Detroit are interested in Petry but want him at $5mil cap hit
Habs are not willing to retain at this time and telling teams they have to take Petry as is
Josh Anderson asking price is going to be "a ton" because Gorton and Hughes really want to keep him

So it sounds like the Flames will not be trading with the habs then. Plenty of other talent out there.

Canadiens are the last placed team in the league, you can like a player all you want but you’d better make some changes if you want to eventually improve.

Did you forget Bergevin is no longer GM there? That isn't getting it done. Change Heinemen to Dube.

My takeaway on the Engels/Toffoli stuff is that Treliving will make an offer for Toffoli and it will depend on what the Habs think they could potentially get for Toffoli in the offseason or by the next trade deadline.
If the offer is relatively fair value, they accept. If they think they can get more when more cap space is free or in a different trade deadline market next year they hold on to him.

Wasnt really serious, but maybe start with my offer and end up at yours. I think it’s a decent deal, given ages, contract status, the possibility of Dube blossoming.

I think it was a bit tongue in cheek.
Dube and a second is probably in the ball park depending on how the Habs view Dube.

Brett Ritchie is the only guy in the lineup who can easily be upgraded.
Lewis, Lucic, and Ruczika are doing what a 4th line should, and as of right now, deserve to dress in game 1 of the playoffs.
Trade chips in the lineup are Monahan and Dube. The rest are locked in. It can even be argued that those 2 are good character guys and a big part of the movement. They’re also not harming the team in any way. Makes me think of Kobasew and Ference and how important they were to the team even though they weren’t top players.
I want all 6 of the current D there in the playoffs. Maybe add 1 depth guy.
Flames should be willing to trade a prospect and picks to upgrade Ritchie and add another scorer to this lineup.

Hard to imagine someone not giving up a 1st in a deal for Tofoli.

Montreal is one of the worst teams since the cap era began and have the highest payroll in the NHL. They are crazy if they don't have everyone not named Nick Suzuki on the table.
