It would assuage a lot of my fears and concerns if they went French.

It is interesting because they are at a bit of a decision point here.
Zegras is likely gone, Drysdale is already gone.
On defense they have Zellweger, Lacombe, Mintyukov, Solberg...which looks okay.
Up front they have Carlsson, Sennecke, McTavish, and Gauthier.
Dostal looks like a stud in net.
And a likely top 5 pick this year but they moved their own 2nd already.
So they likely compare themselves to San Jose and see Smith, Celebrini, Musty, Dickinson, Eklund, Bystedt, Askarov etc and probably go...we don't have enough top end forward talent here.
So if they want to reset then McTavish, and Zegras are probably the pieces you're looking to move if you want to prolong the rebuild another year or two and rebuild your forward lineup a bit.

Well I hope to see some flames movement before the 4 nations. I think Secs right in that they'll want time for a new incoming player to acclimate with a lot of runway left in the season. Mitigates risk during a playoff push.
1. Cozens
2. McTavish
3. Dach
4. Wright
5. Zegras
6. Glass
7. Kunin
Get one of list 1-5 and supplement RHS depth with 6 or 7.

Also gives them a chance over that break to figure out things like housing, etc in a new city. Time with teammates just getting used to a new place would be important for any aged player

Bold - take on Karlsson and pickup an asset along with him for a playoff push this year
Flip Ras in the summer and keep Karlsson as a stopgap/parekh mentor

If it was a pure salary dump...there are probably worse things you could do than 2 years and $10M of Karlsson.
It would actually be pretty shrewed use of the cap space.
Instantly helps your powerplay too.
But I kind of doubt it wouldn't have at least some assets required to bring him in.
Taking on a player like that (<3 years left, high salary but can still contribute) would be smart for where these Flames are though IMO. As long as they can still provide some value, the actual salary hit is less important for a non-cap team.

Would be interesting if they choose to move both Zegras and McTavish. That is essentially sabotaging the rebuild from emerging into a more competitive phase with the purpose of continuing to draft high. Teams do this in the initial tear down phase of the rebuild (trading vets) but less often when the team is about to start getting better after drafting high for years. They’ll be trading young players in this scenario instead of older vets.

Good point. They traded Hagel, Dach and DeBrincat.
