When will the backlash start that there is a woman protagonist?
It seems like there has been some of that so far, but actually more of, "they made her ugly wtf why"... which I don't think is true? She just looks different, which, not sure why, but still seems like a perfectly cromulent rendition. The only thing that bugs me is, does she not look exactly like Millie Bobby Brown?
Spoiler!

I don’t see it.
I also don’t care if my video game character is ####able or not. Ciri kicks ass and I can’t wait to play!

I'm so late to the game, was never really into the genre but since watching Game of Thrones I am more open to it and started playing The Witcher 3. Fantastic game, but I suppose you all know that already!
I don't care about the female protagonist part. In AC Odyssey I played as Kassandra because she was the way better character. For me the disappointment in that Gerault is the man and part of reason I loved previous games so it's a bit of a disappointment that it sounds like he's going to be mostly an NPC. That said I'm sure Ciri will be able to carry the game just fine.

Also stoked about Onimusha coming back.
Gamers ('as a community' on the whole) do not reject female led games, so I don't really understand where the initial comment came from. There's a long, long history of strong female characters heading up franchises. I'd say for right now, there's probably more IP that are female led than male led, if they haven't committed to being a gamer-chosen decision (and a lot of the times, like with Kassandra and V where the female performance is actually better than the male resulting in gamers choosing those versions of the characters).
Okami HD is on sale for $6 on every platform. Great time to play it (or play it again) with a sequel announced. I grabbed it on Switch and it holds up great, fantastic and utterly unique game.

There is a very loud minority who want to be angry about everything and who make this crusade their entire identity, and amplifying those voices in order to create a "bad guy" creates publicity and attention for the game such that people want to praise it just to stick it to those troglodytes. This has been a marketing strategy used by nearly every major Disney / Amazon project for the past 5 years or so. And there are also plenty of people in media - regardless of sector or industry - who know they can generate outrage clicks by talking about the "controversy".
Just ignore it, and figure out if it's a good game based on the people who seem to be critiquing or praising it on that basis. It's mildly annoying to try to sift through the culture war bull#### to find actual legitimate well-founded opinion, but not THAT hard.

but... Ciri seems so nerfed in that. In Witcher 3 she had mastered crazy teleport skills and really should have been having a cakewalk in that trailer.

What does that have to do with how good the trailer is?
They’re not going to plunk people into an extremely overpowered character right at the start of a new trilogy.

Well said.
I think there’s a glimmer of hope on this front as well. Some of the worst on this front, like IGN, are seeing layoffs right now because it’s not working as a business model.
Perhaps people have finally grown tired of exactly what you lay out in your post. The industry will be far better off when this is the case, and this out-rage based screaming (I’ll refuse to call it ‘journalism’) has finally died off.

Sounds like the same issue a lot of the entertainment industry has right now. Clickbait and negative posting are the soup du jour.
The problem with Disney and other companies was swapping genders/ethnicities just to fit an agenda and they didn't make sense to the franchise as a whole. When it does make sense to a game/franchise they go after looks like Aloy in Horizon ZD.
The thing about Aloy is they changed her look to make her more like the average person to be more relatable to try and move away from the female sex symbol in games stereotype.
I can see it both ways but that is why some games have set characters and some let you create characters, some games want to tell you a story and some games want you to create your own story. Ciri looks exactly how they want her to look when telling her story and anyone complaining isn't a fan of the series and probably not video games on a whole.
There are exceptions to the rules though when sometimes it makes sense and that is something like Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
Anyone pony up for the early access Path of Exile 2? I'm hearing really good things.
Really good, very D2 like so far. I’m nearing the end of act 1 and while the combat is slower than D4, I actually appreciate the fact that a poorly executed fight against a champion pack means I’m dead.
I never played PoE so I’m not overly invested in the story, and the loot doesn’t feel overly rewarding yet but it’s still early on.

I checked my Steam recap. I have two respectable gaming PCs but I spent 80% of my time playing Stardew Valley and Balatro on Steam Deck. Supermarket Simulator came third.
My top 3 of the year were Metaphor, Trails through Daybreak, and stitch. 100% of my Steam time was spent on Steam Deck as I don't have a PC. I wonder how common that is?

It’s pretty common. They’ve introduced a lot of people to the benefits of PC gaming with an experience more like a console.
I need to play Metaphor but I have a huge RPG backlog. Mostly I’ve been playing the old Fire Emblem games.
