IC. That makes sense. Both are Left handed though and for that reason I don’t think Saad adds anything that Ferland doesn’t fit that 1st line and Saad is too good for the 3rd line. But if Frolik is bumped to play with Bennett and Janko, then I could get behind that. But I feel Saad would spend a lot of time with Bennett and Janko.. which I guess isn’t a bad thing as long as they are producing. I think Rieder hedges your bets a bit by being less committed in terms of contract and less assets (or less expensive assets) it would cost to keep the deal strictly between The flames and yotes.
But I wouldn’t be upset in either scenario.

Yeah, but holding onto feelings from “yesterday” does no one any good. Better to just cut bait. They don’t have the centre depth required to win.

Teams without centre depth can get close to winning - but they never actually win the Cup. It’s one of the real truths when it comes to Lord Stanley.

There are about 5 players in the league that you trade pretty much anything to get your hands on. Karlsson is definitely one of them, as long as you can get him under contract for the long term. He's able to control the game all by himself.

I suppose it's down to how highly you rate Thomas. Some teams had him in their top 10 at the draft last year, and he's improved his stock since then. #1 centres are hard to get. Or if you don't like Thomas, there's Kyrou. Or Kostin.

Point is, the Blues have the deepest group of prospects in the league. They can offer a package of high-end youth without hurting their current roster. Potential TB deals involve guys making significant contributions at the NHL level today.

His play after that significant injury vs. the cap hit / term he's going to be signed to doesn't frighten you?

What significant injury? His last two years have been unreal and this year he's still a 0.77ppg player.

Johnny is elite, but he can't control a game. Karlsson can. Any team would take him at whatever cap hit he would like.

Karlsson was quoted as saying that in his off season surgery doctors removed half his ankle bone.

I know, it was repaired and he's back to putting up points at a ridiculous rate. He's 0.77ppg on a dumpster fire team. How many other D are able to put up 60+ in a down year?

If you know then why did you ask what injury? His skating looks like it's suffered somewhat as a result.

I'm just saying it's a concern, especially with the talk he's going to be looking to sign one of the biggest contracts ever for a defenseman.

So you're saying as a Flames fan you'd move the significant assets it would take to land him and pay him to the money and term he'll be looking for?

I think I'd rather stick with what we have than pay both those prices. Just my take.

There will be 4 types of NHL GMs come the time Karlsson gets traded.
1. The GM who focuses on finding the next Karlsson, doesn’t overpay for this one and then get forced to open the vault to re-sign him.
2. The GM who trades Karlsson.
3. The GM who misses out, didn’t have enough assets, or cap room to even be involved.
4. Yzerman. The only GM who will somehow get Karlsson for late 1st, expendable prospects and a roster D&F that is post apex. Then signs him for 9.5M.

Treliving can be #1.

Karlsson is only 27 and put up 71 in 77 just last year. Great numbers on a brutal team. If they're selling him we should be all in

I think flames getting karlsson is a complete pipe dream, not even going to waste time on it.
I do think this is the year to go for it though. Get 1 of Hoffman saad Kane pacioretty ROR Stone Etc. Add another bottom six player with some toughness. Pick up a depth dman and roll the dice.
