To me this is the argument against ‘models’ to follow.

GM’s can only control so much. Most try and out forward a team that will be competitive year after year. And must of those teams, at some point, fall well short, or above, expectations. Trying to emulate another teams build can probably only serve as a loose guideline.

You can plan all you want, but, there are many variables that can impact your teams trajectory.

I’m sure the Flames wanted to cultivate a culture of competition and not accepting losing but the ship was tilted in a certain direction. Ext year could be very different.

A gutsy move would be selling while you are in a playoff position OR adding a significant piece in the first year of a rebuild.

Things that I think would be Gutsy...

- Pettersson...probably the "gutsiest" move on the market based on acquistion cost, and his contract.

- Cozens...also gutsy based on his play and his contract

- Kadri...moving him to Colorado with the team in a playoff spot, and your 1st round pick likely heading to Montreal would also be very gutsy.

- Marcus Pettersson...If Bahl is out long term then going after Pettersson as a rental to help keep the team afloat would be seen as very gutsy

The Market is kind of crazy right now.

You've got Vancouver, Buffalo, Anaheim to name a few throwing names out there that are causing a lot of teams to expose their hands a bit. The teams in the chase have a lot of options but the current prices are not insane but it would sting.

Much like the Rantanen trade some things have deadlines.

I can't confirm specifics or timelines for each teams involved as each trade is its own case. I've got intel, Craig would want to do it earlier then later if its a player with term and of organizational need as the player is probably younger and will need time to adjust.

Nothing is in the red zone but we are seeing the ball move on a lot of these available player now that Rantanen has moved.

Teams are calling on Andersson - But given the Flames current situation outside of a grandslam offer they will wait till the summer. The question will always remain the number. Flames are willing to go long term at lower AAV. Higher AAV flames don't want to buy all 8 years.

Flames are willing to operate at Max CAP when the new arena opens up, until then there is a bit of a lower internal cap. Doesn't mean Conroy CAN'T go big game hunt. Just age is a factor.

I don't think it's a troll - The organization is thinking they may have missed a bit in the rebuild. Next year is the Mckenna draft and following year is Dupont.
