Interesting. So you don't believe in the criminalization of:
(1) shouting "fire" in a crowded movie theatre (in the absence of a fire) [to use the classic example];
(2) invitation to sexual touching with a young person;
(3) purgery;
(4) many frauds;
(5) many criminal harassments;
(6) many obstruction of justices; etc, etc, etc
Are you serious right now? Or are you just trying to be obtuse and have an argument?
I think the mathematics on Trump's presidential chances are pretty clear: he needs to get out the disgruntled, middle-aged, white man vote to win. It might be the biggest voting bloc in the country. He just needs to increase voter turnout in this demographic a relatively small amount, and he wins.
Hilary can get 100% of the transgender, lesbian latino vote, and it won't move the needle at all in her chances.
So when Trump says outrageous things about, say, Muslim Immigration, he's not really trying to get the support of anti-muslim bigots. What he's trying to do is motivate middle-aged, white dudes to vote AGAINST the people who DEFEND Islam. He's not trying to get middle-aged white men to hate Muslims, he's trying to get them to take action against the people on your facebook feed that complain about Islamophobia after the Orlanda attack.
So all of these celebrities, and Rachel Maddows, and Cenks, etc don't matter to Trump. They are simply the foil he is using to motivate the people that will win the election for him. And he also knows that if he succeeds, he wins.
I suppose it probably chaps the a$$ of the Regressive Left, and social justice warriors that this election will actually come down to the actions of....middle-aged white dudes.
You have the "mathematics" of this election exactly backwards. Trump cannot win if the only demographic he dominates is uneducated white men. There's just no reasonable voter turnout scenario where that is the case.
Can he win? Sure--I don't have a crystal ball. But if he does, he needs votes from some other demographic. Non-college educated white males are not a big enough group -- and more importantly -- they live in the wrong states.
Ha. Okay. You set that bar a little higher than most obviously.

I didn't mean to imply that the ONLY bloc he needs is the one I described, but I think it's probably still the biggest (or one of) in the country. So small gains in voter turnout in that bloc can see big gains in terms of overall results.

Not sure where this puts me on this spectrum.
What am I missing? Those are all examples of state restrictions on free speech that aren't incitements to violence.

The Trump AMA has started. In an hour he's answered seven questions, three of his answers are just "Crooked Hillary" bashing. The subreddit is nothing but his supporters so don't except anyone challenging his "platform".

Right. So you agree then that it is legitimate or justified for the state to impose restrictions on free speech in situations a little more broad than just "inciting violence". Good. That is the reasonable position to take. Now its possible to have a serious discussion.

Incidentally, this concession may make you a member of the "regressive left". Sorry.

I'm pretty sure you are only arguing with yourself at this point.

We firmly believe Hillary will try and steal this election through vote fraud, especially given recent events. What is your campaign doing to ensure that we have a fair election?
Voter fraud is always a serious concern and authorities must be vigilant from keeping those from voting that are not authorized to do so.
What role should NASA play in helping to Make America Great Again? Honestly I think NASA is wonderful! America has always led the world in space exploration.
A program meant bring truly exceptional talent to America has been twisted by globalist politicians and corporations, allowing low-cost, short term labor to steal jobs from everyday Americans and take everything they learn back to their home countries. Will you curb H-1B abuse and make sure visas are going to people who want to become American, stay American, and make America great? I have put forward a detailed plan for H-1B reform to protect American workers which can viewed on the immigration paper on my website. My plan is the exact opposite of Crooked Hillary Clinton. (https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positio...gration-reform)
What is your plan for reducing or removing the influence of money on politics? Keeping Crooked Hillary Clinton out of the White House!
Mr. Trump, as a self-employed young American, my health insurance costs have skyrocketed under Obamacare. Paying close to $300 a month with a $6,000 deductible is a challenge as I try and grow my business. What will you do as President to ensure that myself and others can not only enjoy the security of having health insurance, but also afford to keep it? One of the first things I will do is to repeal and replace disastrous Obamacare. I will put forward an amazing new plan, which will include many reforms, such as letting people buy insurance across state lines, increasing choice and competition, and bargaining for better, cheaper drug prices.
How will you, as president, tackle this protected class of media elites without stepping on the first amendment rights of average Americans? I have been very concerned about media bias and the total dishonesty of the press. I think new media is a great way to get out the truth.
What do you think is/are the reason(s) for Hillary refusing to hold any press conferences for such a huge amount of time? Crooked Hillary Clinton will not do press conferences because she cannot explain her illegally deleted 33,000 emails, or her disaster in Libya, or her role pushing TPP (which she would 100% approve if she got the chance), or her support for a 550% increase in Syrian refugees, etc.
What would say to a young college student like myself who is considering a job in law enforcement, but might have been discouraged by the recent attacks on police? We will always stand with and support our nation's amazing police. There is nothing more honorable then serving your community and your country as a law enforcement officer. My administration will protect those who protect us. Thank you to all the incredible police officers in our country tonight.
Which US president do you admire the most? There have been many amazing Presidents in American history, including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan, all of whom I greatly admire.

Yeah, I guess I don't think free speech protects you from charges if you used words to commit a crime. I didn't think I'd have to clarify that because I expected a base level of reasonable ability to discern between rational and ridiculous.

Hello Mr. Trump,
Are you getting tired of winning?
I am never tired of winning, and as your president I will win for you, the American people. I'm with you!

Something is only a crime because the state says its a crime. That's what a restriction on free speech is.
To be clear, if someone calls another person an islamophobe in response to something he or she has said, that is not a restriction on free speech. Only the state, through the executive or the judiciary, has the authority to restrict your right to freedom of speech.

ok guys, good one, you got me. How many of you are in on this? Is there a camera somewhere?
I don't understand what you think is so ridiculous.
If the state made it a crime to criticize the government (as is the case in many places) would you still argue that the right to free speech does not protect you "if you used words to commit a crime"?
