The best way to do that is to put Pospisil on the fourth line (ideally as a C). Him and Lomberg will be fun to watch, he plays a type of game that will be suited to playing on a traditional 4th line, it creates a spot in the top 9 for a different player (less suited for a traditional 4th line) to show what he can do. Having him play C on the 4th gives him development opportunities he wouldn't have on the wing on a higher line... yeah he'd get less minutes per game but he'd be a more important player for those minutes. Besides these are only opening day line-up speculation... I assume that at least two spots will open up on or before the TDL.
Fuctionally speaking we have 1 spot outside the 4th line to fill and IMO Pelletier and Coronato (the two along with Pospisil most likely to be competing for it) aren't suited to 4th line duty unless the team takes a departure from what 4th lines are expected to usually to do (and the Calgary Flames aren't a franchise really known for departing from standard deployments).
YMMV but I like Lomberg - Pospisil - Klapka way more then Pelletier - Rooney - Lomberg.

What message does it send Pospisil though? You've done everything we asked of you, did great at the worlds, but you're a 4th liner now! Have fun playing 10mins a night.
In the Sharangovich thread a similar situation ruined his confidence and made NJ trade him. Hopefully we don't do the same with Pospisil. I'd rather have Mantha or Coleman on the 4th line than Pospisil. If you want to try him at center then sure, give him Coleman and Sharky as wingers.

Definitely not a confidence issue in the Connie Con Craig Conroy.
We are boat shopping.

As in you and Conroy are shopping for an actual boat?
You and your partner are shopping for an actual boat?
The Flames are shopping for a big boat like player?
The Flames are looking to sign a player to a boat anchor contract?

As much as I dislike Pospisil getting fourth line minutes, Huska showed last year that he will often shorten the bench in the 3rd period. I suspect Pospisil would likely pick up a lot of those minutes.

Yes, but part of the problem was a lack of communication (Sharangovich had no idea why it happened), and also, Sharangovich is an offensive player who needs ice time, and confidence to play well.
As for Pospisil, a little less ice time might actually protect him a bit from injury. Also, playing with Lomberg might allow him to not always be the first forward on the forecheck (also reducing wear and tear), and playing C would also help with that. Finally, with good communication, and an explanation that they want him to develop as a C, would likely get his buy-in, and avoid the issue Sharangovich faced.

Just can’t imagine where he fits on the team as it sits right now. They have so many wingers to the point that it’s already tough to make a spot for a guy like Coronato. Not to mention that both Coronato and Sharangovich are right-shot, goal-scoring forwards that would likely get less opportunity if Laine was acquired.

I get it. The Flames are shopping for an ice-breaker! A powerful machine, that can dominate the ice, yes?

Taking a while to get to 5000

Reminder - So long as he is in the PAP (which he still is), teams can't speak with Laine.
So its not him.

If there is a player available that we just can't pass on I'm 100% game for some acquisition by trades.
That said, I still look at next draft as the Franchise defining draft. The Flames need draft in the top 10 one more time minimum if they want to find a franchise player.
This team isn't ready to build through trades yet.

As Elliot and Seravelli have brought up a few times. If you want to punish teams that talk to players who are under rights. You'd need to punish all 32 teams.

I can see your point. I hope the coaching staff would outline how to progress to the 3rd or 2nd line within a couple of seasons in such a scenario.
That said, I would be pretty upset if I were in Pospisil's shoes. Especially if he's relegated to the 4th line because the Flames signed a UFA that needs minutes, or have a 1st round pick that needs top 9 minutes.
If Pospisil is the 10th best forward then sure, but I think he is among the 9 best forwards on the team. It will be a fun camp story to follow. I also think that Pospisil has more offense than what he has shown. I could see him as a regular to hit 40 points, with 1 or 2 60 point seasons in his career.

Sharangovich is a lefty. Are you perhaps thinking of Kuzmenko?
