Yup. Dems could lower the threshold if they decide to for example, go have dinner!
Also, over in the Senate, McConnell is now officially the longest serving leader in Senate history.

Jordan up to 20 now, that's 1 more than last round.
At this rate Jordan will win by Christmas.

This is incredibly disorganized by the GOP. Could they not figure this out in Caucus? Instead they air their disunity in public?

That's ridiculous. Can't they all just swear on the constitution they are supposed to believe in? Why a religious document, or, uh, old comic book?

I do think you can swear on pretty much everything, but the Twitter thread offers some clarity. Rumour is it's Robert Garcia from California.

Ok, but just make it standard. Everyone swears on the constitution. It's not like any of them take the actual words of the bible to heart.

No....it's supposed to help them, that's their core base, white racist inbred loons living in a trailer park complaining about how it was the liberals that stopped them from getting on in life, not the bottle of Jim Beam and 12 pack of bud they drink a day with a meth chaser and the fact they can barely read

Is the idea of the Dems nominating Liz Cheney still a thing? Could they peel off the required Republicans to make it happen?

No, they're all Jeffries all the time. They've said they'll vote for him and only him until the GOP sorts its crap out... which makes some sense, they're a united cohesive body, and every time a result comes out where Jeffries has the most votes his name is at the forefront.
Also, can you imagine being the Republican speaker that the Dems were willing to compromise on? You'd just be pilloried endlessly as a RINO. If someone else is getting the job besides McCarthy it's really anyone's guess as to who it will be; Jordan is awful and Scalise (the logical 2nd choice) is basically just McCarthy again, so I doubt Gaetz and company will have any more interest in that option. Although who knows, maybe they'll do it just to say "see how powerful we are, we denied this guy the speaker", even if it is in favour of his clone.

If an alternative worse than McCarthy (from Dems perspective) emerges as a viable candidate, would democrats switch and vote for McCarthy?

I doubt it. That outcome is just a way to win more votes next election.

So, hypothetically, what happens if a speaker is never elected?
Does, simply nothing happen for the next 2 years? I mean not gridlocked, but like, all they do is vote and fail to elect a speaker?

Because of the order of succession I think they have to come up with a Speak of the House. This is a pretty important function in the US government.
