I laughed at the start of the year with the Oilers Stanley Cup glorification. Anyone with half a brain, and a screaming case of potato headitis would look at that team and say, "no depth, a bad blueline and the worst goaltending tandom in the NHL, what are they talking about?"
Like I said the biggest shock is that McDavid has looked so meh. Maybe he's pissed that nobody bought a cake and present to his Captain's skate.

Bang on! The weird amount of media praising them as a top contender was just crazy.

I believe McDavid is injured and the Oilers playing him regardless, but it really shows Draisaitl isn't the star he is made out to be without McDavid pumping him points.

Rushed back from injury to play in the outdoor game and now he's going to keep playing hurt until he really aggravates it and has to shut down for a couple months.
Great way to turn a 2 week injury into a 2 month one, just for the glory of a win against a team they were likely going to beat anyway.

It's actually insane how much pundits that are getting paid to know and talk hockey over rated the Oilers that become a lottery team with a minor injury to their best player. Are we just discovering how bad the bottom 6 forwards, D, and goalies are now?

I thought they were significantly worse than last season
Steinberg is the only media member that I heard question their greatness...and he was basically shamed for it

My guess is that the pundits don't actually believe the bulls*** they're constantly peddling about the Oilers (well, except maybe Ron MacLean). But they clearly have marching orders from the league to pump their tires as much as possible, simply because they mistakenly believe that from a marketing/revenue perspective, they need to feature McDavid 24/7 and get him into the playoffs.
When in reality, I'm willing to bet that no one outside of Edmonton or Toronto gives a s*** whether McDoofus is in the playoffs or not. He's also far from being the best player in the league at this point. Most offensively gifted, for sure. And he can skate really fast, I'll give him that. But his defensive game is garbage, he's a selfish loser, a crappy leader, and he has the personality of a dead fish.

When you look at that defense and goaltenders the question shouldn't be how is a team so many had going to the finals 2-7 but how are there so many people dumb enough to ignore the clear signs that the Oilers were never a SCF threat?

Oilers will have to get 90 points in 72 games to get to 95 points.

I mean if you draft and play arguably the generational talent of his era for 8 years and you barely scrape into the playoffs for half of that it's pretty clear you are a really really crappy team, I mean if they were just mediocre then McSweatpants should at least lift them to conference contender most years

The only reason the Oilers aren't last overall is the historically bad start by San Jose.

Flames are now tied with Edmonton with 5 points in 10 games. We're honestly really lucky they are so NG this season so far so we have something else to feel good about.
