will be interesting to see which kind of absurd concessions McCarthy will have to make to get this over the line. I just can't see any other option, but boy, to say he will be a weak speaker is putting it very mildly.

2nd round of voting going on and there's already 5 against McCarthy, which unless someone votes present or a Dem votes for McCarthy means there'll be another round.

What happens in the 3rd round? Does Jordan have to drop out and it will just be McCarthy v Jeffries?

Wait, I thought the Trump people were the ones who were really concerned about there being pedophiles and sex pests all over the place in Washington? And now we have one example nominating another one for GOP Speaker of the House?

The mere fact that Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert are so vehemently against McCarthy seems to indicate that he should win. He's certainly preferable to Jim ####ing Jordan.

I wonder what the betting odds are on Jeffries somehow getting it. Surely there's no way.

Nope, the whole process happens again.. nominations, then everyone votes, there's no rules like a runoff.

It repeats until there is someone with a majority, could be days or weeks even.

A Dem should nominate George Santos just for fun.

Or nominate Trump, make everyone vote against him!

what's McCarthy's play here? Just call vote after vote after vote in hope they'll break down? Yeah, that'll work ...

If 3 straight votes go the same way, it should be a stalemate.

Over under on total number of ballots before a speaker is elected: 5.5?

Reading some of the historical stuff has been fun. The last time a speaker wasn't voted in on the first try was 1923. That one took 9 ballots and 2 days to complete. The 1855 vote for speaker took 133 ballots!

So the GOP has 222 seats I believe and need 218 votes. So, any vote where someone other than McCarthy gets 5 votes, it's going to need to go another round.

Round 3 right now Jordan has 4...lol.

That number changes if someone votes present, abstains, or misses it. 218 isn’t a hard number but the most likely. They’ll end up trapping the Never Kevins in an elevator and hold a vote so he wins on a technicality

9 so far for Jordan, 4th vote likely.
