That was a great and memorizing Cena heel promo, something that he's never done before and got him out and the audience out of their comfort zone.
They could have gone another way, that Cena sold his soul to the Rock for one more title win to beat Flair.
Instead they used the last 25 years. I've talked about bad guy promos before and Mick Foley's break down of them, and the biggest thing was that the villain believes he's in the right, that what he's doing is the right thing.
Cena did that tonight, and it was brilliant, he used the last 25 years of fans cheering and booing him. Lets be honest, for most fans the booing was fun, they didn't hate him deep down, it was entertaining and cool to hate Cena. And he used that on full blast tonight. you got a sense of him catering to the fans for the last 25 years, working his ass off like no other to gain their respect and love and never quite getting it, was eating him like a cancer, like a big all of puss and bile and black blood that kept growing in him. But he just worked harder and he felt he never got what he wanted out of the relationship, and in his heel turn that disgusting ball of hate material finally blew out like a volcano.
There was nothing funny about Cena tonight, and even the lighting with his shaded eyes was so completely well done. And the fact that not only did he go after the fans that "hated him", but also the fans in the audience that had supported him and even pointing out kids and condemning them as partners in a abusive relationship was so very good. Even Cody's part where he basically said that the fans boo'd him because they knew he was resiliant was great.
I also like how Cena tied his retirement into the whole thing.
They really took every thing about Cena and turned it upside right up to Cena pointing that one kid out and basically saying he was the worst of them all.
The crowd reaction to it was amazing, and Cena knew just how to use it and control it.
It took 25 years for Cena to turn heel, and it makes sense, and he fully messaged that.

I feel like it helped that it was in Belgium/Europe where you're guaranteed a really hot crowd.

Did anyone see the spot with Mox and the bed of nails? What the hell are they thinking? That's going way too far; it's absolutely reprehensible for a promotion on network television allowing that. I expect some sponsors pull away from the company after seeing that.

Won't someone think of the children!?
It's not for me. I think it was unnecessarily silly in a feud that no one seems to care about between two old stars that are desperate to matter again while on the verge of "go away" heat.
I don't think it costs them a single sponsor, it's just not that big of a deal. Moxley does this silly #### on a regular basis and it doesn't change anything. Likewise, I also don't think it gets them a single new regular viewer because it's nothing new.

Brock shutting down Mox’s mudshow wrestling ideas for their WrestleMania match makes a lot more sense now

It's also still not nearly as funny as the Nick Gage/Jericho pizza cutter spot, and then an immediate cutaway to a Domino's ad.

It seems so needless IMO.
What did that really add to the match?
And it was also clearly done a bit wrong as you could see Yuta panic a bit when he couldn't actually get it out of Moxley's back.
Feels like a lot of ways that could have went wrong for such little payoff.

The most offensive part of that match is we still have to do this stupid Mox and Death Riders angle.
Damn shame that AEW is cooking at every level except the main event scene.

It doesn't seem to boost viewship or attendance, when they do this stuff, mainly because it does feel completely meaningless.
Moxley feels to me like a guy that would blade himself when he picks up his coffee order at starbucks.
They are certainly not holy sh%t moments, nor getting the right kind of heat.
I think the overall feel of the spot wasn't, it was awesome, or it really pushed the story line. More along the lines that its a stupid stunt that means nothing to anyone except for Moxley.

This, for some reason bookers are in two modes.
Killing a story or angle too quickly because they personally don't like it contrary to fan reaction.
Or they are personally vested in it and they can't believe the fans don't like it, so they must be stupid and they'll see my genius eventually.
There is a third and its the Vince MacMahon theory
Its a rib angle and he thinks its hilarious and he''s punishing the worker.

Moxley, Cope, Jericho and some of the others are the clear example of "you really needed the structure of WWE to keep your bad ideas in check"
Good wrestlers overall, but clearly guys that needed a bit more of "Nope, let's do it this way instead" that you just don't get in AEW.

European fans are insane. A real step above North American crowds (even us Canadians).

Definitely the case in soccer. As for WWE, I guess what helps though is them not going there as often. From my understanding that was the case in the '90s. Bret Hart, for example, reportedly had a strong fanbase in Europe.

Jericho hints at it in his second book, but he was resentful that Vince didn't do all of his ideas. It got especially bad as Jericho was put up against China.

WWE announcing Gable/Grande Americano from "The Gulf of America" is pretty funny. Only Gable could pull off this gimmick.
Sounds like a cup of coffee lol.

Gable is so good.
He's pretty much a less pushed Kurt Angle with his character work and in ring talent.
If he were 5'10" instead of like 5'7" he's in the main event scene for sure
