They're moving the crossing light since it's easier to move the light than reconstruct the bank of the river to accommodate the bridge one block east.

Which is a lot better than the original plan of just adding another one...

Bottom line to me is with the way the city has handled the budget audits, I can't support the return of any of the council. I also can't vote for any of the current serving members that are running for mayor.

I don't know if it was actually a plan as much as it was Rick Bell trying to be provocative. Of course, a lot of people got their knickers in a knot over nothing. It made no sense for pedestrians, drivers, or anyone else to have two stop lights there, and it was never going to happen.
That being said, I would have preferred the bridge slightly East for the simple reason that it would have been cool to somehow enable people to exit onto Prince's Island or continue fully across the river. But I'm not a designer or an engineer, so I don't know how feasible it would be.

No, that is exactly why A bridge is needed. Not necessarily this one.

And it comes in handy for sex education classes. They can dress the kids in white jump suits and have them run out of one end as fast as they can.

I'm picturing that scene of Homer pretending to be sperm for the kids, bent over at the waist in the TV room with his arms behind him as he wiggles from side to side!

No, but I see that you stole my post from here
SSP wasn't letting me on, so I came here to post first, then when I went to post there, you already had it linked.

haha the comments on that article are hilarious. Someone is actually complaining that the bridge is sheltered for cold weather because people are exposed to the elements while walking to the bridge. Oh man, people will find anything to complain about.

agreed. very much looking forward to getting a calatrava bridge in calgary. hopefully this leads to an increase in more avant garde architecture...unfortunately, it probably won't, although the Bow and EAP are nice starts.

I'm not sure I actually agree with this. On another forum in which I participate, this thread popped up awhile back.
http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo....main/4782700/
If you read post 128, its by someone who travelled to Milwaukee to check out a Calatrava project there, and then stayed a few days to see what else there was. I should mention the guy is from New Zealand, so its not like it was a trip around the block either. (And he went to Milwaukee, which certainly has less going for it than Calgary, IMO)
Now, I'm not saying this bridge will turn us into the Vegas of the North, but it doesn't hurt either, and makes the city more cosmopolitan.

one guy made a really valid comment :
Anyone that has walked across the bridges @ Prince's Island Park will notice the spikes on them to ward off the pigeon's who nest in the crevices of the bridge. This new bridge will be a wonderful testament to the Stampeders - red and white! The good ol' $hithawks will take over this bridge, and after a few months, nobody will want to go near the most expensive birdhouse in the city.
hes bang on... the pigeons by next spring will be all over this, there are tons of good roosts and its going to be a mess
