Kind of like a news reporter killing an FBI agent and being the trinity killers long lost daughter?
This show has lost me. The entire premise for this season seems to be dipping into CSI levels of stupidity, How did dexter not notice someone moving around on the floor above him, for several hours, in a creaky old home? Why is dexter so concerned about how a girl, who is clearly in a very deep state of shock, will react to kind of seeing him do his thing through a grate from across the room. I dunno, I'm out.

I thought that she was trapped in a stairwell that was locked on both ends... maybe the stairs went up to the attic or something, but I think the house was a single story and my recollection is that the stairs didn't lead anywhere... she was just stuck in there. (Maybe she was drugged - tranquilized?)
Besides, I think the images of Harry were telling - Dexter was so focused on getting his life back, to finding himself again, to start rebuilding after Rita's death that he was making this kill really important to him... which opens himself up to mistakes... killing during daylight, last second kill room using newspaper, getting tranquilized, etc. Maybe not investigating the house was a mistake because of this?

I think it might also be because this is the first person, since Harry (and his victims) to truly Dexter for who he really is. Perhaps it was the shock of that realization and the timing following Rita's death?
I also think a lot of the storyline so far and Dexter's internal monolouges suggest that he's not quite sure what's going on inside of him... he kills this roadkill guy and still feels empty, he misses Rita and he doesn't think it's just because it's part of his cover story, he seemed genuinely moved when the psychologist told him that Harrison was too young to be impacted by what he saw happen to Rita, etc. Perhaps Dexter the killer has developed a new layer and is becoming more normal - developing actual feelings outside of just primative aggression, protection, etc...?

I highlighted the line in bold because this has been the central premise of every single season of the show, I don't care about dexter opening himself up to strangers anymore.
I get that dexter isn't quite himself. But he is still, fundamentally, a genius, efficient, perceptive killing machine. I feel like the show is betraying it's own mythology in order to make itself more palatable for a larger audience.

Then what do you want? Episode after episode of Dexter finding and killing bad people while the supporting cast are just elaborate props. You want to talk about "dipping to CSI levels of stupidity" that's what you'll get. Dexter's entire existence is to mask who he is. The show would be absolutely no fun if that was taken out of the equation.

I suppose the other option is that the writers are out of ideas for Dexter as the audience knew him through the first season and are left either expanding the show, or calling it a series. While I don't want subsequent seasons to be unrecognizable or unenjoyable, I still think there's another season left after this one when Dexter is finally caught or killed.
I'm still enjoying the show. After last season's incredible highs, I'm not surprised there are some fans who don't like this season... and obviously there's a group (not necessarily including you) who would want to see season 1 repeated over and over.

Is that where this season is headed?? Dexter and Julia Stiles teaming up to catch killers?? Not sure I like that, but will obviously watch. The show has never really let me down, but I'm not sure I'm on board with this story. It doesn't seem believable to me.

But the fact that Miami has had at least 6 serial killers in the Dexter universe is believable to you?

I was talking more about the relationship between Dexter and this new chick. I'm not totally buying her character right now.
And where do you get 6 serial killers from?? Trinity, Ice Truck, Bay Harbor Butcher and these new gang killings (which I wouldn't consider a serial killer thing) are the only ones I can think of. Am I missing someone?? Maybe the Vacation Murders, but that ended very fast. And Trinity was a national thing, he wasn't just Miami.

How about the Skinner, Miguel Prado and Boyd? That also doesn't include the serial killers that were Dexter's kills of the week.

yeah, alright, I'll give you those. Maybe not Miguel. Regardless, that doesn't make make the Stiles and Dexter relationship more believable.

So the episode ended with her saying 'Boyd wasn't the only one.' Was she referring to she'd been a victim prior to that and that's why she'd left home - or - was Boyd working with other men? The latter makes sense because she asked 'are you going to sell me?' and Boyd had mentioned on the table that Dexter didn't 'know what you're getting into'
Thoughts?

At first I thought she was referring to her father, but, yes, it looks like they are going to play off that Belgian rape ring story that came out a few years ago...

Dexter planned on killing Body on his normal "animal cleanup" route in an abandoned tourist building. However, as Dexter injected Boyd with the tranquilizer, Boyd fired his animal tranquilizer at Dexters chest, thus both were out unconscious on the road. The next scene shows that both are in an ambulance, clearing understanding what both men were going to do one another.
The next scene was one of the best I have seen since watching Dexter. Both are in a shared hospital rooms, eyeing one another, hoping to get out of the room and kill the other. Eventually the doctors leave, and Boyd runs to Dexters room, only to find him not there. Boyd escapes the hospital and heads home.
When Boyd returns, he feels an odd feeling in his house. Dexter is in there and begins to torment him by turning on his "Take It!" tapes that Boyd has relied on. Furthermore, he puts a lock of hair in Boyd's sight to acknowledge that Dexter knows what Boyd has done. Eventually Dexter injects Boyd in the neck and knocks him out.
Dexter then makes a quick kill room, and kills Boyd. However, as he stabs Boyd in the chest, he sees a face in the window. THis is Julia Stiles. She is clearly been wounded by Boyd and/or raped. Dexter opens the door with blood on his hands and the knife. Julia Stiles falls down bruised and bloodied into Dexter's arms, and he reassures her that he will not hurt her.

I am pretty intrigued by this season so far, but curious to see what direction they're going to go with Julia Stiles' character.
The Quinn/Debra/Dexter dynamic is excellent and going to be so awkward when Quinn comes out and accuses Dexter.

You know I wasn't referring to Quinn when I said "Robocop", or are you just too young?

I quoted you because you had mentioned no comments on that episode. Nah - I know who Peter Weller is, be interesting to see how this storyline plays out.

This show is going downhill fast. I wanted to stop watching tonight's episode half way through. I won't post any spoilers, but get ready for a turd burger.
